Over your entire working life, what have been the reasons you got minor or major telling off by your manager? ![]()
Re: Being told off at work !
I will share mine , this was back in Dubai , many years ago, smokey eye makeup had just started doing the fashion rounds and one day I put on blackish smokey eye makeup and my manager took me aside and asked me if I had been hit in the eye, correction, both eyes?
I told him no, that's my fashion statement.
He then told me to go clear my face if I was to attend any meetings that day!!! I was distraught at that time and super angry. But now years later I realize I was on the wrong !!!
Re: Being told off at work !
So many times that it’s hard to even remember but I have been working for past 17 years now
some times the managers were just being a jerk while for the rest have helped me achieve the success that I have now.
Re: Being told off at work !
I also once got a telling off over sipping my coffee while on the phone with clients !!! But I guess that was a very rightful telling off coz the other person can actually hear you gulp and that is not nice!
Re: Being told off at work !
Coming in late.
Going home early.
Not coming in.
Answering the internal phone with "hello".
Telling one of my higher managers to " do one".
Putting pepper in the coffee during a managers meeting.
Throwing a stink bomb so we could get a longer lunch.
I could go on and on and on..
Re: Being told off at work !

Re: Being told off at work !
share your experiences with your hubby and in-laws. were you ever told off by your hubby or your in-laws?
Re: Being told off at work !
excellent boss- ripped me apart when he thought I had dropped the ball on something, but then helped me refocus, and shielded me from any bigger blowback
out for himself boss- told me off because I had told his boss that something we were looking to do was unrealistic. I was told off in a meeting in front of my peers and direct reports on how I needed to set his expectations before setting anyone else's expectations. The issue was he had oversold stuff which he and I agreed was not realistic, but then he buckled and was going to make me the scapegoat or he may have had a plan to somehow weasel out of it together and I think my being proactive and telling the project sponsor we will not be able to do something just bit me in the arse.
