What if someone pops the question: Are you single or when are you getting married? Well, it depends! Some might just get very excited and say ‘yeah very soon’ (and blush), whereas others who enjoy their freedom would declare with élan - ‘I am making the most of being single, so no plans to mingle yet.’ With Gen X moving at a faster pace than ever before, sometimes being single and professionally successful holds more importance that getting entangled in personal relations. Increasingly, urban singles are living life to the fullest on their own terms. Does this mean being single can let you enjoy your life to the fullest, which may not be the case after marriage? Do urban singles prefer living on their own terms for long, as they fear the compromises that come along with commitment? Surrounded by friends and enjoying a hectic social life - is singlehood the best phase of everyone’s life?
nice topic :)...well i do believe marriage is a very important and integral part of everyone's life though i myself have no desire to get married soon. And it does annoy me very much when everyone is so keen on getting your married once you turn above 20. Also, i think yes being single may or may nt be the best phase but definately a phase when you have lesser responsibilities and can lead your life the way you want. With marriage there comes so many resposibilities and the time to change, adapt and accept. So yes i think one should enjoy life to their fullest when they have all the freedom and hope and pray things after marriage dont change too much.

It probably depends on what you life is like before and after getting married. I personally love my married life and MaashaAllah have been blessed with a husband who is like my best friend. I love going out with him, and just spending time with him in general. I have probably gained more freedom after being married.

It is not the best but one of the carefree phases of life. So enjoy it till you can . Married life , then life with kids have their own joy. You have to be happily married to know that.

I agree completely Mirch....
My single days were so very carefree, I came and went as I pleased, I lived in manhattan so could have any kind of food at any time I wanted - delivered to my door or out in the restaurants, just go and do and work - whenever I wanted. But it was a hollow kind of thing too. A very self-indulgent and actually lonely type of lifestyle. Carefree and indulgent for sure but not really a fulfilling life.
It wasnt till I married my prince and had my boyz till I actually realized how shallow my previous life was lol. I have SO many more worries and concerns now lol....but also SO much more love, happiness, fulfillment and cherished family. There is really no way to explain this to someone who is in the shoes that I was in way back then....its really not something you can realize or understand till it happens to you. IMHO.

Both have their plusses and minuses. It all depends. I do like life without the influence of another person, but it is terribly lonely at times. It's always nice to have a companion to talk to, cuddle with, take long walks etc etc.

well both has its own charms, but single life is very easy to live and do things at whatever whenever with whoever is fun, single life with friends is even better, being single student life is also fun. in single life you have many phases one can enjoy without many worries.

i dont think there is an issue in terms of social life..it depends on you and your spouse. obviously u have to be considerate of each other, and hopefully that is not seen as some sort of massive constraint.
yes responsibilities increase because there are others depending on you. However in the case of many, they ahve other responsibilities to others even prior to getting married, supporting parents, helping siblings with college expenses etc.

I didn't read all posts here so not sure if I am repeating something but - how are you supposed to have fun - ALONE!? Someone explain this to me. People who pretend to like singledom - no need, really.
I think they both can not be compared. Both have their beauties. Single life can be very enjoyable until a certain time. If you choose to always stay single you will want to be with someone eventually. Like I said, there is a time limit to everything. After single life comes the married life, which means ur going a step higher in life. I'm not married yet but I believe there's nothing more beautiful than two people being married and loving each other to their fullest.
