i was raised in a single family but idea of a joint family was always a fascinating thing for me and i would love my kids to grow in that enviroment.

Personally I think we all need our space and unless you live with people who think exactly the same way as you do, you will run into situations that require a bit more compromise and tolerance you're willing to give. Been there done that. While there are benefits, the compromises can become overwhelming. A little distance can keep relationships fresh. My opinion.

I believe the main issue living in a joint family is lack of personal space/privacy. Joint family is okay if we have to live with our elders only,i.e., grandparents or spouse's parents, but i personally don't like the idea of all the uncles,aunties,cousins,etc living in a joint family.
