Being raised in a desi neighborhood

Re: Being raised in a desi neighborhood

Lol!! What kind of issues exactly? hehe

Re: Being raised in a desi neighborhood

Lol! Most white girls do not understand brown girl issues of waxing arms, threading upper lips and whatever. Seems like a funny thing but it's actually such a relief to be around people that understand!

Re: Being raised in a desi neighborhood

^ That's the first time I've ever heard of that? I know non-desi girls who have just as much issues wiht hair removal as we do.

as for the going out late at night....I hear ya! I always wanted a friend who'd understand that....but surprisingly when I got to college, most of the girls I knew still had "freedoms" and yet were religious and good in school...made me so mad that my parents were still being strict about curfew (cz they were always like "girls who stay out late aren't good and dont do well in school and bla bla"

Re: Being raised in a desi neighborhood

I have more non-Desi friends than Desi friends. And from those Desi friends, I'd say 7 or 8 are actually close. We have a group of some Pakistani families. We all get together for both Eids, August 14th, dinners, as well as Thanksgiving and other whitey holidays.

My high school has pretty much no decent Muslim kids. Most of them are either lax brahs, fobs, or weird emo people. And that's the issue with being raised outside a desi environment. You lose the touch. Especially those damn lax brahs. %$&^*%^(&)

In that group I mentioned, the thing I noticed is that the two more wealthy family, their kids are more westernized, one guy is constantly criticizing Pakistan and one girl has these really awkward boy issues. But the 3 other not as wealthy families, their kids are just 'more desi'.. Eating halal, actually knowing a thing or two about the motherland. Once they got rich, wth is a Pakeeestaayyuunnn?!?!?!

Re: Being raised in a desi neighborhood

erm.. i live in Bahrain, where in the local population is less than that of expats.. and its such a tiny tiny island... that u can't really escape desis !!!

I have grown up with, gone to school with and am friends with only desis. I went to The Indian School Bahrain which had like 5000 Indian kids !!!!

You'd think that I'd have Arab friends but nope !! Although Bahrain is a very cosmopolitan country !!

I guess people from Dubai or Saudi must be in similar situations like mine. Unless of course you go to British or American Schools the chances are all your life in Bahrain will be spent around desis !!
