Being pregnant and going to work

Right now, I am enying every female who is expecting and can stay at home during that time. The beginning can be very exhausting plus the morning/evening sickness can take away any rest energy that might be there. I can be happy that at least I am not dead bored at home, but somedays there is a lot of will power needed to get out of the warm cosy bed and face the tiring day ahead.

So how did you or your wifes cope with working and being pregnant? Any tips to make it easier.

congratulations SaadiaB...xx

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

yes congratulations to you!! :) I know how very hard the first months are. I was SO tired, weary to the bone all the time for no reason. Just count the days till the second trimester starts, it gets so much better once you pass that first trimester. Thats because the hormones increase so much at first - the amounts double every day for about the first 12 weeks. Then they level off. Pamper yourself as much as you can, let the housework suffer for a while, it'll still be there when you get to the 2nd trimester. Count the weeks till you arrive at 2nd trimester, it really does go fast. Best of health and happiness to you!

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

thanks DL and Mama,
Mama, I am counting days, next week I have taken free to relax and have found a maid for once in a while. I am glad it gets better in the second trimester, what about the third trimester? I have lost my appetite and 6 kilos, nothing tastes good anymore, I wonder will I get my appetite back in the next trimester?

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

Thats wonderful about your week off and extra help around the house! Every pregnancy is different but with all 3 of mine, the 1st trimester was hands down the roughest. Your appetite should start returning with a vengeance in the 2nd. I had a thing for this dark chocolate cake that my local grocery store carries....when they didnt have it, I used to get so mad that I'd go find the manager to complain! LOL!! I'm embarrassed about that now but at the time I felt very justified in my anger!! Anyway, the 3rd trimester is a little tough because you get so big and uncomfortable but still I think its the 1st 12 weeks that are the hardest. Its funny how your tastes change when youre preg., just eat what you want but do your best to keep it healthy at least most of the time. Keep us posted about how you're doing! bless!

...Mama is a bit envious! My youngest baby just started to wallk and now I dont have a "baby" anymore...he's a toddler now. Their babyhood is just to short!

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

Hmmm...since we're talking pregnancies, I was wondering, is there a way you can tell you're pregnant before you notice that you missed your period?

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

hmmm not really unless you start throwing up and all that. But the new over-the-counter pregnancy tests are so sensitive now that you can test a day or 2 before your cycle is due to start. Really works, I used to spend so much money on those tests!! They never lied to me and always told me when i had one in the oven!

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

Congratulations, i am lucky to stay home with this pregnancy (due in 2 weeks). But with the first I worked for almost 4 months. I was extremely nauseous and dizzy. I would make sure a garbage was close by cause I was throwing up occasionally until my doctor gave me some anti-nausea medication. At that point I had been dehydrated and taken to the hospital from really bad morning sickness that would not stop and had been steadily losing weight. So I found I could not get through the day without that medicine (metoclopramide).

Most of the time at work I was so busy, i tried not to think about any discomfort I had or an fatigue. I made sure I ate a healthy lunch and drank plenty of fluid. My job involved being on my feet all day and some heavy lifting as well. It was very tiring, so I decided to leave. I didn't want to risk my own health or the baby's so i decided to stay home at that point. Good luck to you and I hope you have an easy and healthy pregnancy Inshallah.

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

Congratulations Saadia.

I worked all through my pregnancy with Harris virtually right up untill his birth. I was actually in the early stages of labour during my final day at work so I know how tough it is being pregnant whilst working full time.

Having an understanding employer helps. Mine wasn't and I had to hide my pregnancy during the first trimester as I had just started a new job. Office based jobs are easier in that you don't have to tire yourself out any more than necessarry. If you find that your morning sickness and fatigue is worse at particular times of the day perhaps you could reschedule your working pattern so that you are able to be at home during those times.

All the best of luck with the pregnancy.

Leo

^^ shaz yaar.. u rock.

Congrats Sadia :)
have you tried the vitamins yet?
But its like magic in the 2nd trimester..much better. :)

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

Vitamins for what?

And don't tell me you beat me Muniya!

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

is it gonna be a boy or a girl. Do you know yet.

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

I was teaching till i was 8 months pregnant, the only way i could stop the nausea was to eat ALL the time (word of warning - second trimester is better? like hell it is, i was nauseous all the way)
So i use to teach with a huge bag of crisps or nuts or bournville choclate on my desk and quite clearly told the pupils the only people allowed to eat in the class were pregnant people!
Make sure u get a chance to put ur feet up, literally, I think there is a law where pregnant ladies can demand rest times - not too sure though, check with your HR people.

Congratulations on your good news.

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

congratulations though!

Congrats!!

Re: Being pregnant and going to work

Mama, lol complaining about the dark chocolate cake, hehe I can just imagine it, how we feel so justified if we dont get what we want to eat, I bought this box of ice cream for home and feel bad about it, but some afternoons I just eat some spoonsful and it feels so good.

Congratz about your baby’s new freedom

Saima, I am lucky to have an office job and can go home anytime I want/now I feel bad about having to complain about my situation. Good luck to you too and hope you have an easy birth.

Shaz, again I am lucky, as rule here say that I cant work after the 7th month (8 weeks before the birth). I can’t even imagine working so long, you are quite brave to hold on so long. I think now I’m feeling bad for complaining. My employer is quite understanding, I have been with them now almost 7 years now… Well things will be better Insahallah and I’m looking forward to my week off next week and then some more in the following 4 months.
My doc told me to get multi-vitamin tablets, maybe thats why Muniya is talking about.

Atlanta, not yet, its too soon.

Serendipiti, thanks and lol at eating at desk. thank God there are laws for pregnant females that protect their rights.

Suroor, yes its hard but its also so awarding, dont think twice about it, its such a wonderful experience (minus the fatigue and nausea) but it goes way at some stage.

Thanks to all for the well wishes :flower:
