is not a function of being seflish, is it?
if it is, why should it be?
& who, in terms of personal character qualities, is likely to not be selfish, but be practical at the same time?
any thoughts, welcome to share!

Re: being practical ...
Let me see. If somebody wants to show off his/her practicality on a matter, he/she may come off being selfish. When a person says "This isn't a good idea, let's be practical," unknowingly he/she is rejecting the other person's opinion or ideas. The act of rejecting someone's opinion based on the idea of being practical is undoubtedly selfish.
Re: being practical ...
define selfishness. I don't think being PRACTICAL has something to do with being SELFISH. CRUEL may be, but definitely not selfishness. it all goes to from what perspective you look at it; like if some1 wants to become a millioniare over the night and I tell him that its not possible, so by doing so what do you think I become? a SELFISH person or a PRACTICAL man telling him to work hard?
Re: being practical ...
Supernova Girl,
you said it right. o agree totally with the idea the way you presented it.
it is an issue when one person beins imposing his attitudes and referring to them as being practical.
the selfish and hypocrisy ridden individual will demand that 'becoming practical'
at the expense of that what can be truly practical and unselfish.
and of course not all men or women are like this.
Kamran Khan,
you make a good point. in the case of your example, you will of course be practical.
it's when people mislead others that is when they are in fact misleading themselves as well.
thanks for sharing your perspectives.
