Do you maintain friendships with people just for your kid’s sakes?

We’re acquainted with a family through my husband, the guy is great and his kids are wonderfully well behaved and are lovely kids. My daughter LOVES playing with them but the wifey is really weird. All that she does is her saas ki buraiyan who lives with them and is her own phupho :smack: She also has a nasty habit of gossiping, which I find distasteful.

They live only 5 minutes drive from our house and my daughter keeps begging me to arrange playdates for her with those kids. Finally I gave in and have set up a playdate for her… now I’m dreading sitting with that lady for a couple of hours and listening to just saas ki buraiyaan :hinna:

Have any of you ever been in such a predicament?

MIAinVA - yes I have also be friended some moms for my daughter's sake but I did something smart. I asked them to leave their kids and enjoy their time off. I do the same - I drop my daughter off at their house for an hour (not more). That way I run some errands rather just making conversation.

njgal: I thought about doing that but felt guilty doing for some reason, I guess its the norm these days if you reciprocate so yeah, once I establish a routine playdate thing, I will most porbably do that … thanks :hugz:

mirch: :cb: I wouldn’t call it FULL of saas ki buraiyan … plus its more uncomfortable when you know the people and have met the saas. There’s other juvenile stuff on Life1 too. Usually, I take it all with a grain of salt :hehe:

^It depends on the saas :p. This saas is just too sweet and old and the bahu is totally weird, she keeps gossiping about other people too… I think she has OCD or something :cb:

I do that too sometimes, but I don't speak much with that kind of ladies.:)

If you just met someone recently it is tacky to dump personal problems on them. It just tells you about the character of the person.

I personally don’t want to be at a listening end of people airing out dirty laundry. I find it distasteful and boring :yawn:

also if she has no qualms talking about her relatives - what things she would say behind your back?

lol, she does that with other girls too, the saas ki buraiyaan .... its not just me :p
But her kids are sooooo good, mashaAllah..... I wonder if its her saas training the kids.

I come to this forum from time to time, which is proof enough that I befriend people for my daughter’s sake. :snooty:
