Sara, it totally depends. In a perfect world, I would love to be best friends with my devrani/jethani...love them like my own and include them in everything I do. However, these relationships are delicate and sometimes its better to be friends rather then best friends.
Your devrani/jethani owe their first loyalty to their brothers and mothers. If you're frustrated about something or someone and need to vent, you automatically turn to your best friend for support. If that ends up being your devrani/jethani, then you risk them harboring negative feelings, lagai bujhai and several other possibilities.
Its way better to be friendly and maintain a good relationship with them rather then be best friends. :)
