Being an Arab does not make you a better Muslim

What is the word for "to understand" in arabic in the above mentioned ayah?

Re: Being an Arab does not make you a better Muslim

Qur'an is like a Poetic Book, that is why some people find it hard to understand! If you want to understand Qur'an like the Holy Prophet (saw) did, we won't have topics like these. The Problem is that many have to consult a scholar or someone who is allegedly literate in the teachings of Islam. As if they don't have a brain or are not able to think!

The Prophet's Life was the Qur'an. How many of you can say that "My life is the Qur'an"?
Not even I can say that and that puts me to shame.

arab are very illiterate people. only petrodollars are hiding their flaws...
arabs-petrodolars=taliban

Good question sister hareema , i was being lazy to refer book for giving reference but your question forced me to open books,Jazakallahukhair. Firstly i wanted to give reference for the aayath which i posted earlier, this verse is mentioned in Surah no:54 AL- QAMAR, verses - 17,22,32,40 .

Li is To and liz-zikr means to remember or to memorize and to understand or take lessons. So in this two aspects Quraan is easy to learn, memorize and also understand. One word has many meanings in arabic language and particularly when it comes to translation it gives you many apropos meanings.

There are only few English translations of Quran that I trust and those I don't trust are the ones translated by Arabs. lol

Anyway, I've studied with arab students and I know their mother toung didn't help them much to translate or even to pronounce Quran correctly.

I think you meant here "Prophet's character was Quran" as mentioned in ahadith.
May be you're forgetting the ayah that says "if you don't know ask those who do".

Jazakillah for the explanation.

But I'm a bit confused here, "zikr" means to remember (a closer meaning might be memorize) but to remember and to understand are two different things, if we are remembering something doesn't mean that we are also understanding it.

Besides, understand is* adraak* or fahm in Arabic dictionary.

I think may be the Quran translation you're reading is by Darul-Salam who translate Jihad as Holy war. :)

Is it so sister? i never knew Darussalam publishers even mistranslate, if it is so let us pray to Allah(SAT) to increase there knowledge and our knowledge aswell :)

Back to the topic, 60minutesman i have got two good verses from Quraan related to your topic and hope this will help us in concluding this thread. When some one says wrong about any muslim or gives his own judgement give them these verses . Allah(SAT) says in the Holy Quran: Chapter 49 Surah Hujurat verse 13:O mankind, We created you from one man and one woman, and then divided you into nations and tribes so that you may recognize one another. Indeed, the most honorable among you in the sight of Allah is he who is the most pious (or God-conscious) of you. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Chapter 49 Surah Hujurat verse 11: O ye who believe! Let not some men among you mock at others: it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor let some women mock other women: it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames: Ill-seeming is a name connoting wickedness (to be used of one) after he has believed: And those who do not desist are (indeed) doing wrong.

Allah(SAT) addresses the believers in the above Aayah and guides them never to mock other human beings, tribes, races, or communities! It does not behove a believer, who truly believes in Allah(SAT) and the Last Day, to say wrong things about any tribe or race, whether they are Arabs or non-Arabs.

Allah knows best
