Okay so before this semester started, I got a TA position offer from this notorious professor and I had my concerns about him. Anyway i thought, how bad can he be? WELL, HE’S WORSE THAN I EXPECTED!!!
I’m just an undergrad TA and he’s making me do research work for him (RA’s get paid more).
Now I had to do this project for him, which I put my heart n soul into and now he’s finding silly excuses so that I can re-do some of the stuff. I mean c’mon, have a heart! It’s almost end of the semester and I’m taking advanced courses, LET ME STUDY HUH?
I’m done with my assigned hours but he doesn’t care. He’s gonna make me work wayyy more. He expects me to be there whenever he wants.
How can you deal with a situation like this? This is stressing me out. Either i can study (wihch i really need to) or do and re-do his projects.
Please pray for me
I’m so sad…
ok
50% same situation here got TA ship and thats a great honor for me to work with our Dept. Dean... .. but its charming na..
Well, my job nature is very different from urs ... i have to teach two under graduate classes and check some assignments etc. which does not take so much time of mine at all.... and more than that its making my way to be a faculty member at my own university after my degree gets completed.........
wish you best of luck ... ....... in this job.
Regards
hmmm... what kind of research is this... a Literature Survey or actual empirical studies?
Did the job descrption say anything about what you'd be doing? if not, then I'd say you should be a little more active about your concerns.
Although some Profs would have their TAs' do research for them, they need to be clear on this before they engage you. For example, I'm hiring a TA/RA for the summer term of 2004, and I have to devise the job description and payscale accordingly.
Secondly, why don't you tell the prof. that if he really needs this redone, it can only be after your exams! I'd expect most profs to be receptive and accomodating to that idea. I just ended up giving my classes an extension on the due date for their term end project reports cuz ppl were freaking out!
I am really surprised to find out that TA's may have to do research for thier profs. I am a graduate TA, but all I have to do is teach and grade exams. That in its self is a full time job preparing lectures, holding review and help sessions, I hardly get anytime for lab work. Even so, if the classes get too large, the department hires graders (mostly undergrads) to grade the papers. Over here this one instructor asked her TA to come early in the morning to arrange the tables in the class room in a certain way, and the TA refused point blank, and the TA's graduate advisor backed him up on his decision. Maybe is different that way in the natural sciences.
Hey guys, thanks for the support. Anyway, I'm done with whatever he wanted me to do. And next time i'll make sure I know exactly what I'm supposed to do.
Yaar get a hint for once!
Kya matlab Chee? :(
