Beggar vs. achiever mentality

A few weeks ago on Nadia Khan’s morning show, a lady wedding planner was telling how much people spend on their weddings these days, and I was like ‘wah’. Till people started calling in to inquire and suggest how same money would’ve been better spent, if they were distributed amongst the poor of the country. hmmmm

Around the same week I read an interview in ad urdu mag, the celeb lady (forgot her name) was complaining how things aren’t changing in Pakistan, Musharaf should’ve started all projects at same time instead of spreading them. hmmmm. Then you come to GS thinking, well these people must have better understanding and more realistic approach towards life and stuff, only to be surprised. What I do not understand is, how can a well educated person not understand, that money is only good, as long its moving? How can someone in a response to a new 7-star hotel project ask, how the project will help the poor and why government doesn’t just give the money to the poor? And same goes for the worlds tallest building announcement, don’t care whether the announcement is true or false, how can this question arise among people like ‘us’?

Why do we always look for others to give us stuff be it money, food or even respect? Why don’t we have the achievers mentality, why don’t we go get what we want, this is not the same as ‘go rob what you want’. And don’t tell me that, YOU are sick and tired of our government, because majority of the ‘beggar mentality’ representatives, of this board at least, don’t live in Pak, so you’re not directly influenced by anything. And no, you’re not ‘positively criticizing’ as that requires that you, once in a blue moon, also say something positive.

So what will it take to change ‘YOUR’ mentality from wanting to have every thing served in your beggar bowl to actually want to work for it, when talking about Pakistan that is, I know that we’re all super achievers in our private lives.

Re: Beggar vs. achiever mentality

What is really pissing me off is that our freakin' country has freakin' people dying of poverty, we have f**kin' levels of pollution and inhumanity present in our society and country... and yet all the money we get is just used to "show" us as progressive even though the real solution would be solve the problems first and then do the "extra" (which is the only way I can put it right now) work. Also let's just admit that even though Pakistan is heading ahead (even if slowly) we at this level need to fix our problems first before we actually dare to SHOW that we are progressive.
