if one doesn’t give water to it intentionally, would that be a sin and would that be haram (eating the animal)? Is giving water to the animal to drink significant in the slaughtering process?
not to put down ur enthusiasm of gaining more knowledge, but i do really believe there r far more important things to know about than such things....
try to think about more wider issues....
Right so this is another dumb question I guess but which did not spring up all of a sudden, it’s just a theory I am thinking of with regards to an incident, I am sorry that I come up with such narrow issues, but I am puzzled…define what is “wider issues”.
*sigh
First I am accused of opening threads which lead to secretarian debates, (and yeah HEATED ones) and that I want people to have heated debates, then i heard a audio from a molvi and have some questions but nobody is bothered in answering them.
Now I ask a simple question, it seems like it’s not even worth it. Maybe it’s too silly or too simple or too weird or ridiculous.
Go on people just reply to topics which are debatable :k: and fight and fight and argue and argue… there’s NO need to help anyone here, just come here and prove yourself to be the right one. Isn’t that what’s happening around here…I just have this impression.
On a side note, I have little Islamic knowledge infact so please excuse my ignorance
for that is me.
it was just an advice....
u dont need to drag it....
it is from the sunnah of the Prophet (saw) to give some water to the animal to drink....
this is to make it forget the fear and as part of inflicting less pain on the animal....
just as it is ordered to use a sharp knife....
using a blunt knife is not good....
and yes a person is guilty of not obeying the Prophet (saw) if he deliberately keeps the animal away from drinking water....
and it is punishable too, by Allah....
mughal bhai .. i think small lil things of religion are also important… I understand where u were coming from but the way it was put make the query so un important yet it was an important question in it of itself by looking at ur last reply:flower1:
Thanks for sharing with us ![]()
ya, allah has asked us to have mercy on the animals before eating them.
allah is all knowing and mercyful.
Can someone provide Koranic verses and/or sayings of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to prove we have to give water to the animal before slaughtering it?
good point raised by Madhanee.
Secondly, why would giving the animal something to drink lessen its pain??? cuz it will feel more comfortable??? wouldn’t that be giving it false hope of feeling releived whereas the real pain is to come? aren’t u then deceiving the animal?
Thirdly, if u give the animal to drink and then cut it in its throat, the animal will panic,…and might give up the water, which can get into its lungs and cause suffocation! ![]()

Islamic slaughter is not painful; the animal is unconscious within seconds because the blood flow to the brain has been cut off…
If you don’t believe me press your jugular veins and you’ll faint after a while…
:p
dulficar, sometimes i feel disgust, when you and your folk talk of killings so easily and with apitite.
Who slaughters animal while animal is drinking water? I guess you have never seen animal slaugthering.

there's a difference between the jugular veins and the carotid arteries (which are cut).
changez_Like: i haven't mentioned they are killed while drinking, but after drinking it is possible that cuz of the panic reaction the animal might vomit
I once saw a calf being slaughtered in pakistan and the neck had only been cut halfway and some of the ropes came loose and the calf was running all around the yard with half its head hanging off.![]()
Oh haa(n)… of course, Sorry, my mistake, I confused jugular veins with carotid arteries…
…just remembered, veins = towards heart, and arteries = away from heart ![]()
But I thought we are supposed to cut everything (veins, arteries, oesophagus, trachea) except for the spinal cord???
That’s sad, that’s why we should use sharp knifes and be quick about it and obviously not let any person slaughter but get a muscular strong person like myself to do it. ![]()
Calfs are so cute as well, one of our cows at the ranch once gave birth and I use to feed it from my hands with pieces of bread sometimes and it felt so good when it licked my hand…

Buffalo calfs are cute too..
Reminds me when we were in Pakistan as kids we loved to whip those lizard things with a straw from the ‘Pakistani brush thing’ and the tail would get chopped of sometimes and dance about on its own for ages before dieing down…
Giving water and food to the animals that are domesticated and are about to be slaughtered is an act of mercy, like giving the guy on death row something his last meal...
Hunted animals need not be shown this mercy as they are wild and already have their fill from nature like ponds, seeds, leaves e.t.c...
Armughal Thank you for your reply :) but you still haven't told me what you mean by "wider issues".
