We are from Punjab and if I remember correctly- beef was seen as something which only poor people had.
That is true to an extent.
Back then, (till the 80s), beef used to be the cheapest. Chicken was cooked only when guests were over.
Now, chicken has been beaten to death in Pakistan. Chicken nuggets for breakfast, pilao for lunch, salan for dinner. It has become more of a side dish.
I personally like beef, because of its texture, and the larger quantity allows you to experiment with it infinitely.

Beef prices have shot thru the roof here, I was looking at steaks yesterday and a 2 pack of T-Bones was 30 dollars. I purchased a leg of Lamb for 10.54 a Kg. Now Lamb is much cheaper here.

Yeah....i think that is because a lot of money is spent raising cows specifically for their meat. Look at the beef imported from Australia and Japan. Its very high priced. A steak of kobe beef is like worth 2 month salary.
