Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

I always found it sweet when someone in Punjab call their parents as ‘Bee ji, Miyan Ji’. Bebe is also lovely word for mother in Punjabi.

We in Sindh use different words while addressing mother like Amma, Ammar, Jeejal and for father Baba Sain.

Share how do you address to your parents in your languages.

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

we r also punjabi but my father calls his parents ama g n aba g v call the same to r grand parents but my mum used to call her other maa g :)

n father used to call her dadi vadi ama since she was the senior most in the family

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

Thanks Devi Ji for sharing. Is there a particular area of Punjab, where these terms 'Mian Ji and Bee ji' used?

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

i dont exactly but have sen calling these names not only punjabi but others also

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

Thats intersting that people other than Punjabi also used these words. There is also 'Daa ji' probably used in Punjab and KP for addressing father.

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

(watch 1:30 to 2:00)

PS: Its really funny and must watch drama.

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

I call my parents ammi ji, abbu ji  And my children call me mama, mom ,mommy and papa daddy :vivo:

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

Waisay miyaan ji kyoon kehtay hain woh to wives husbands ko kehti hain :konfused:

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

Miyan is a term for respect, as we say Allah Miyan and equal to Sain in Sindhi as we say Allah Sain.

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

My parents called their grandparents "Maa Jee/Miyan Jee". My parents called their parents "Aami jee/Abu Jee" and that is what I refer to my grandparents as. I call my parents "Aami/Abu". Now I see my nephew (brother's son) calling my parents Aami/Abu. However, my other nephew (sister's son) will, InshAllah, be saying Maa Jee and Miyaan Jee when he starts speaking fluently. It was either that or it would have been Nani jee/Nana jee.

My nephews call their parents Mama/Baba.
Its interesting how what we choose to address our parents changes every generation.

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

We called our nana "baba" which is what my mom and her siblings called him...my nani is "nani ammi" and my mom's elder sister "Khala Ammi".... I never saw my dada, but my dadi was "Amma" which is what everyone called her....

We also have the term "Ammanee" (not sure if I'm spelling it correctly!) which is what we called my Nana's sister...this term is used alot in Hyderabad for grandmothers/elder female relatives.

I called my parents Papa & Ammi, my husband also called his dad Papa...so that's what our boys call him

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

I like calling others i.e. sindhi fellow as ‘Saai’

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

We used to call our teachers and Molvi Saa'in :D

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

Saai is very sweet and respected word, i think.

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

yes it is equivalent of Sir, but more melodious than that. It is also used as Baba Sain, Ada Sain, Dada Sain.

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

oky I heard even called by saying 'Sain Sain' twice. Does it means something?

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

Its equal to Qibla Muhatarm, I mean extra Izzat.

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

Nako / Naku - Chacha in baluchi :)

Re: Bee Ji, Miyan Ji

What does 'Moor gai' means? Is it used for addressing mother?
