Bedtime Prayers

Was wondering if any of you parents have a bedtime prayers ritual with your toddlers and children.

What prayers/duas do you recite together?

Is it just the one parent that particpates in the bedtime prayer? or both?

Re: Bedtime Prayers

whoever puts the kid to sleep.. does it... usually its me cuz he doesnt want daddy at bedtime.

i do the 4 quls, ayatul kursi and durood shareef... then i let him recite the kalima and sleep dua himself. ive been reading it out loud to him ever since he was born... he memorized it when he was 2.

we dont do bedtime stories. we do the above instead... it winds him down and just cosy son/mother time.

if im busy with genie.... the man does it.. exactly the same way.

we have never done it together.

prayers are totally man's fort though.

Re: Bedtime Prayers

We, brush, change and do bed time stories for 30 min.

than I listen do my daughter's Bismillah, Kalma, dua for sleeping, and half of Surah Ikhlas that she knows. Than I read lout to her Kalma, Dua, and full surah and we repeat several times. than i read Ayatual Kursy and than she sleeps.

When she sleeps i read Kalam again for 10 min. and read 3 times Suraj Al-Kausar.

I am doing this since she was born and picked herup herself.

my mum used to do the same and what you read as a child you tend to remember forever. So i am aiming to read alot to my daughter, but slowly so she learns as well

Re: Bedtime Prayers

what is the sleep ki dua?

i read the 4 qul's, ayat al kursi, and surah fatiha and then phoonko on him which he finds very amusing. right now, i say it softly to myself but my plan is to iA start reciting it out loud as he gets older and can understand, but actually, hrm, i think i'm going to start doing that now since you ladies are right- they'll learn better and quicker if they grow up hearing it.

Re: Bedtime Prayers

Dua for sleeping:

ALLAHHUMA BEISMEKA AHMOOTU WA AHYA. (I tried to write as best as i could).

Re: Bedtime Prayers

Yes, we have a similar ritual… kalma, bismillah, aaooz-u-billah, subhana, and allahhuma..

sometimes it halarious cus if she wakes up in the middle of the night is scared, i can hear her reciting all the duas again :hehe:

Awww

Re: Bedtime Prayers

Since it is almost always me who rocks and puts our 2 yo to sleep,so I am the one who does the prayer thing (she refuses to sleep when the husband holds her..she thinks it is play time for some reason..!).I recite the 4 quls and ayatul kursi and darood shareef and phoonk her.She does not know any of it except that when asked ‘how does mama do dua?’,she blows a big ‘phoonk’ on your face…:hehe:

Re: Bedtime Prayers

here's what we do....usually it's my husband who has bedtime duty, but regardless which one of us it is, we have the boys recite in the following order:

pehla kalma
surah fatiha
4 qul
ayat ul kursi
and then whatever surah they have been assigned in Sunday School that week...mashallah, they all three have about about 4-5 surahs, in addition to those above completely memorized.

That is how my parents taught me my surahs, so I've continued the habit with my boys.

Re: Bedtime Prayers

You've done a good job MASHALLAH, And this sonay ki Dua' ( bed time dua').

Re: Bedtime Prayers

Fifth grader does Isha prayers and does the sleep dua and ayatul kursi. Kindergartner does sleep dua and we repeat Sunday school surahs and duas/ kalimas sometimes. I myself do the ayatl kursi and Surah naas and falaq (if I remember to)

Re: Bedtime Prayers

MashAllah this is sooo good, I am gonna do this with Jr. from tonight inshAllah. He has just started saying Allahu Akbar and raising his hands when we pray and he does sajda and kisses the kaaba on the prayer mat so I think I should start reciting duaas loudly so he can pick up more inshAllah

Re: Bedtime Prayers

mashaAllah girls!

I love putting my 4 month old to sleep (even though he could care less about my presence :sniff sniff:) I have been reading bismillah and kalmah to him since I brought him home from the hospital while rocking him to sleep.. I dont phoonk on him because I think he may get scared or i may wake him up but I think its cute!!! I sometimes read al fateha to him in arabic followed bye nglish translation because it's my favorite dua! but thats pretty much it!

I do read him a 2 minute islamic story.. but so far I have only read stories about the origin of his first, middle, and last name and their brief history! I hope he enjoys but I dont want him to get bored so I keep it very short!

Re: Bedtime Prayers

GTG phoonk doesnt mean u literally have to blow on him. but just like lightly do it on him as u read dua's in ur heart...
And rest i guess u all are doing a great job!! INSHALLAH hope that we (ttc) join u guys in this soon!!

Re: Bedtime Prayers

We both put her to bed together. She has to have both if not me when she goes to sleep.

As soon as she lies down in her bed, I read "sonaky ki dua" out loud. Recently started to make her repeat after me. We do this at nap time too. Then depending on how tired we are its either I read 4 Quls out loud to her or skip that and then daddy reads the 1st Kalima to her. She will be turning 2 next month & MashaAllah almost knows her 1st Kalima.

Once we are back in our room right before sleeping I take her nazar out reading Surah Falaq & Surah Naas followed by Ayat ul Kursi, 4 Quls & then "sonay ki dua" for me.

Ladies do not underestimate your child's ability to learn at infancy. My daughter knows her Abcs. Counts till 12 by herself & repeats after me till 20. Knows 3 nursery rhymes. Knows her 1st Kalima & I have started working on her "Alif Baa Taas"

We have never been out to any mother child classes whatsoever. This is all just me reciting to her during her diaper changes since she was 2 months old. It just makes that time all the more fun & your child is learning in the process.
