Becoming a mod?

I was wonderin how people are slected to be mods on this place. Does one have to first post a million threads before they are asked to become a mod or is modship just handed out depending on who u know, and how long youve been coming on to gup shup.

To be fair i think all members should be allowed the chance to be a moderator through an election of some sort, where members can vote the mods of their choice. This would make gupshup a more transparent community, allow an equal number of male and female moderators, and therefore give every member the chance to become a moderator.

Being a Mod is big responsiblity there are many things a mod have to take care of, few of the most important are:

  1. Have enough time to check all posts
  2. an open mind person.
  3. Perfect decission maker
  4. regardless of his/her own likes/choices can do justice.
  5. have a quality to controll ppl (when they r going out of controll)
  6. quality of clear speach
    etc etc etc

how do u know if one is capable ? for sure u need to know him/her, & it does need time, u need to know his/her alot of posts from which his personality reflects, or u should know him/her personaly.

Selection of Mods on election is not a good idea, bcos that will bring someone from one group, that person maybe not suitable for other, ppl want thier freedom, which sometimes cant be given bcos some freedoms are used to ruin others.

If u think u r capable, i think u should contact the responsible personals here & who knows, maybe after sometime we see u as a mod.

Good Luck:)

:bravo:

You only got 11 posts, and ur worried about being a mod? HA.

JB the selection process youve described is totally bias and subjective on other mods opinions, without taking in to concideration the view of the many guppies who are members of this community, secondly I do not want to be a mod myself, was just intersted in learning the selection process of how someone is made a mod.

PM

Although its a very good question but members have either zero or at least very little knowledge about selection process, including myself. TOPP/GS Administration could answer your question much better than anyone else.

I am glad that you brought up a very valid point as we all stand for democracy but there are always pros and cons attached to voting or polling a moderator. E.G. asking for favours later on. Or holding a grudge...if one is less tolerant.

On several occasions you'll see a prompt action from a Moderators and, in worst-case scenario, from Administration.

Like always moderators are selected by GS Administration and members have no say what so every on this issue. Usually, prior to appointing a moderator, administration does not ask for member’s opinion either. To further strengthened my point here is a reference from one of the Administrators.

Okay jee here we go.

There are no rules as such, we go for interested and dedicated members. We know what we need and what we can offer, and usually ppl know what they need and can offer. Is ke ilawah, one has to be independent enough to handle different situations and ppl. You're knowledge DB and personality is important.

Depended on the forum we need you for, you don't have to be popular or well known guppy. Most importantly we should be able to trust each other, so you should have a stable personality :)

Interested guppies can send us a mail / pm or we find them. Alhamdulillah, most ppl we contact are very interested in joining the team :)

Gupshup is a privately owned site, and as such the decisions as to who becomes a Mod is taken by the owners or whoever they appoint to make that decision. If it was a public-owned site, then the idea of electing a mod might be valid. As it is though it's a site set up, funded and run for Pakistanis (and others) by a few individuals.

X-treme fair enuff, but the process of becoming a mod is very bias, and does not take in to concideration the opinions of the guppies who actually make this site what it is.

Thanks for your feedback PM - We have no plans of changing this process.

Reading punjabi-munda's thoughtful comments (after 12 posts here), reminded me of an old joke... it will be so wrong to post it here, but I am sure I can post it in Jokes forum. So there it is. :)

mashAllah Faisal mubarak ho at being a Chaudhry of gup shup, u r very kismut mund. My point has nothing to do with me being a Chaudhry, oops i mean a mod of gup shup, it was just to suggest a more fairer way to implement modship.

PM

Faisal the joke is right here

Boy: Ammi, Ammi mein bara ho kar kiya banno ga?
Mother: Mera Beta bara ho kar Gupshup ka mod banay ga

:D

by the way, that was it...

I dread the day when some fundo freak is made a Mod. :D

Faisal: I went to the jokes forum first and then came here (bursts out laughing)

pm yar: your suggestion is valid, however i am sure others have answered it aptly. Thanks btw :~)

PM bhai, I am wondering on your “wondering” as you have stated you dont have the interest in becoming a M  D, then why are you arguing that much on the procedures of selecting a MOD - though it has been clrearly described by JB in short and by Pilot in details. From those detailed responses, I beleive your wondering should have been gone by now - but unfortunately you are “pulling the skin of hair” (baal ki khaal nikalna  ).

To be very frank, its not easy to be a M  D, its a responsibility and needs a lot of time to devote to your assignment. Well, if I am choosen for being a M  D, I may not accept it (unless I am heavily paid for the job :D) - simply b’cos I cant do the job with my present responsibilities.

PM bhai… just come to Cafe and lets have some fun :stuck_out_tongue:
