**England midfielder David Beckham has torn his left Achilles tendon in AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo, according to the Italian club’s coach Leonardo.**Beckham was getting ready to kick a ball unchallenged when he pulled up in pain and signalled to the bench to go off, leaving Milan with 10 men.
He had returned to the starting XI having come off the bench in Wednesday’s loss to Manchester United.
The 34-year-old is hoping to be part of England’s World Cup squad in June.
Former Manchester United star Beckham is bidding to become the first England player to feature in four successive World Cup finals. He shares the record of three with Bobby Moore and Peter Shilton.
But the former England captain admitted after the 4-0 Champions League defeat to his old club that he is concerned for his international place.
“I am not guaranteed to go to South Africa at all,” he said.
“I’m going to have to work hard and hopefully win my place. There are a good few months left.”
