beauty pageants

Whats your opinion of them and what value do they hold

I think theyre just so unnecesarry

What value body builders hold?

Re: beauty pageants

Good one

Re: beauty pageants

They both are burden on society.

But they do, both of them do. They set the standards, or reflect the social trends of what is considered beauty. There is got to be some value in it. Good thing is that by today’s standards, beauty is no longer a God given gift, but a quality that you can develop if you work on it with discipline The same discipline that is required to build muscles is applicable in this field

Re: beauty pageants

ugly man can build muscles…ugly woman can’t grow a beutiful face…

Have you seen Oprah Winfrey lately?

Re: beauty pageants

Re: beauty pageants

Looking at pretty things is a nice distraction.

Re: beauty pageants

things. lol

Re: beauty pageants

like pretty things with noor
haha lol

Re: beauty pageants

they might have some pretty accessories to go with their outfit.

So i was thinking about this and i think a lot of beauty pageants can induce an unhealthy self image in young girls, can be like a meat market and very superficial.

Then i remembered some of the questions from miss america and miss universe pageant. Some of them required thought, grace and poise in answering and it made me think if there was a beauty pageant which looked at not just external beauty but also intellect and internal beauty
There was also a national dress section in miss universe.

In some developing countries winning this prize, gives you prestige, prize money, chance to travel the world and help those less fortunate, a chance to meet world leaders etc. Sure you might be seen as just a beautiful face but it gives women in different fields opportunities they might no have otherwise. It also allows them to promote the image of their country to the world. For some of them it gives them a platform to express opinion on world politics, a chance to go into the acting world they may otherwise not have. In the miss america pageant they even have a talent section.

Some of the women who take part in these pageants are doctors (Mrs Universe Aditi Govitrikar was an aspiring gynaecologist when she won, she also featured in Adnan Sami’s kabhi to nazar milao), others hold degrees in economics (Lara Dutta) etc. Miss America this yr is also an aspiring doctor who plans to use her prize of $50 000 for medical school.

I think it really depends on the beauty pageant and the intention behind it. Some might say it objectifies women but not all pageants are broadcast toa worldwide audience some can be small key. Are not most women stared at in some societies? Are not women who wear particular clothes, or act in music videos or movies objectified? What about guys into body building or modeling? What if it was a conservative dress pageant in front of an all female audience would that be ok?

Re: beauty pageants

Well they certainly aren’t as popular and well followed as they used to be.

Re: beauty pageants

Delhi, slow clap you have made Lara Dutta proud.

Re: beauty pageants

i think its pretty lame. like reality shows.

and its usually the slow ones from the west who participate in this stuff, while indians are all invested in it as much as their spelling bee champs. vee cum conquer all yur games and prizes, this is madras!

Re: beauty pageants

Re: beauty pageants

^ When you have three full chapters send them to me, along with a book proposal. I’ll contribute accordingly.
proposal: overall synopsis, chapter by chapter break down, word count, your vision for the book, etc etc.
Don’t let me down, delhi. I’m counting on you.

Re: beauty pageants

THE END

Re: beauty pageants

Wow this is intense. El topo, are u serious? im sorta kinda the gullible type  if i do it will you actually read it? do you have any publishing connections?

How about I send you the proposal first and then you give me feedback whether you like it then i will work on the chapters. i don’t want my book proposal rejected :frowning:
To do a good job it will take time..i hope you’re ok with waiting.

Re: beauty pageants

Um, I was mostly just joshing around. I thought you were too. If you’re genuine Delhi, I’m somewhat worried :expressionless:
If you’re really truly super serious then I’d advise re-thinking before you commit to such a project. A book on Pakistani Aesthetics is not without interest, but what qualifies you to write such a thing? If you have an answer to this question, then by all means send me your proposal and I’ll give you feedback.

I think I’m the gullible one here.
