my first fondant cake
Re: Beautiful Cakes by GS'ers
^Nice!
For those of you who use fondant...........how hard is it to work with? Is it impossible to get a nice smooth cake in the first try?
Re: Beautiful Cakes by GS'ers
I don't found it hard....if ur fondant is good then it's all Gus.. Obviously we can't get it perfect ... But u still get a good finished fondant cake.......like after I completely smoothed out fondant it was not very smooth coz my cake was not leveled perfectly... Sit at the end I got some bubbles under my fondant... But still as u can see it in pictures it's looks kind of smooth n everybody lovd it....

Re: Beautiful Cakes by GS’ers
ok but please help me little with this, my cake at first look really great on baking and after inserting a knife it came out clean means it got cooked but the time i tasted it, it had a raw taste somewhat like if it still needed to be cooked but from outside corners it got hard like biscuit, was there something missing in the recipe or i made mistake the time i was baking it, any clue
and it was not soft at all ![]()

Re: Beautiful Cakes by GS’ers
i think ur oven temprature is high…usually 180c is suggested but when i made my first cake on 180 it was like still needed to be cooked…now i bake on 160 or 170 for a bit longer time n the result is good : )
Re: Beautiful Cakes by GS'ers
awwwwww great tip, i will try once more to see if i get a good result too. Really thanks Geminis

Its not the fondant thats hard to work with.. infact its very easy to handle for the first timers ..
what is hard though is leveling the cake and ensuring the crumbs are neatly coated into the cream so that the fondant doesnt look untidy or uneven .. but that leveling step takes alot of practice ...
Re: Beautiful Cakes by GS’ers
Did you add baking soda or baking powder? Or did you use self-rising flour? If the cake was hard, you may have forgotten the baking soda. Self-rising flour already has baking soda in it, but regular flour does not, and you have to add it in.
Another possibility is that you did not have enough liquid in your batter.
Yes, it does sound like your oven is on the hot side. I also have a hot oven, so I set it to just below the line for the temp the recipe calls for.
Also, cakes become hard when you over-mix the batter. Flour should be the last ingredient that you add in the batter. Make sure you mix it with a wooden spoon or spatula (not a whisk!), and gently mix it with as few turns of the batter as possible until all of the flour is incorporated. Once you can’t see any more flour, stop mixing! If you continue mixing the batter at this point, your cake will become hard.
Don’t worry, everyone has failed in the kitchen! Baking involves exact math. It’s not like cooking, where you can roughly measure 1 cup from a drinking glass and pour it in. Make sure you are following the recipe’s exact measurements. If it says 1 cup, it means 1 leveled cup from a measuring cup. 1 teaspoon means that you must use a measuring teaspoon and flatten the powder to drop off the excess.
Hope that helps!

i finally made my very very very very very first cake, and i made it in pressure cooker
and especial thanks to **geminis **![]()
but i failed to decorate it,
can someone guide me how to do that with some home made stuff
Re: Beautiful Cakes by GS'ers
The easiest way to decorate a cake is to put a simple glaze on it: powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla essence, 1 tablespoon milk. You can also flavor the glaze with citrus juice, like if you want a lemon glaze, add a tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. I would not use the lemon juice in the bottle for this purpose, though. You can adjust the consistency of the glaze by adding more milk or powdered sugar. Then pour it over the cake and immediately put the cake in the fridge so that the glaze solidifies. Also note that you will need lots of powdered sugar because it shrinks in volume when you make the glaze.
Or you can whip some heavy cream with 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tablespoon sugar and just put that on for a fresh cream frosting. :)
Re: Beautiful Cakes by GS'ers
^ Thanks will try that. Do you know how to make a home made whip cream :@:
