India and NZ (have looked scratchy at times, batting is not so strong imo) maybe unbeaten in the tournament so far but (no disrespect to both) Australia IS the team to beat for me. So if you beat them then you have got to believe that you can beat any side. This is ODI World Cup and it is not always won by the best team either.
Only 4 of the previous 10 world cups have been won by the best team in the world at the time as well

I rate Aussie mental resilience and self-belief very highly. It was mainly because of their mental strength and never give up attitude that Australia were still able to compete against NZ despite being in a hopeless situation. So even in defeat Aussies won a moral victory imo
If the converse was true and NZ had been shot out for 150 odd batting first against Australia, I doubt that they (NZ) would have been able to compete at all. "Giving up" is not in the dictionary of Aussies. That is the difference between Australia and the other teams even though this Aussie team is not as good as the invincible team of 1999 to 2007

I think he is talking about the momentum and confidence it will give Pak beating the best team in the tournament. Yes there are two more games to win but momentum is something as well, and everyone knows when momentum is with Pak they are a very dangerous team.
However I think our world cup will end at the quarter final stage.

Do you people really take all former cricketers comments so literally or Imran is an exception? maybe he's a politician now or he was the one who kept saying such stuff during 92 WC and they bore fruit?
btw going thru this thread, i agree with that cricket might have changed since IK retired but his analysis during this WC and last one in India are still holding true. He has been proven right so far. They played Yasir Shah against India (good players of spin) and dropped him against windies (who struggle against leg spin). Yasir shah should be playing against weaker sides for sure at the very least

If we beat Australia then we will have a good shot at India as our bowling unit will be firing all cylinders and batsmen would have had some confidence.
I bet Indians won't find it easy to score 300 against this unit now.

Actually back in 1992 there was balance between bat and ball.
The game has evolved for sure but it has become easier now (in favour of the batsmen) with all the crappy fielding restrictions
And not much has changed as regards the fielding. Aus, NZ and SA were top fielding sides back then as well.
We were winning games despite our comical outfielding (watch the H/L of the final) in 1992. If anything our catching is worse now. Do not remember Pakistan dropping so many catches in 1992

Anyway, the sheer stupidity of his self belief and strategic break down of the game (that worked as a motivational theory in itself) that made him win the 92 world cup. So Imran Khan can afford to talk like that.
But maybe you don't always have to talk out loud every time you put your 92 WC captain's hat on. Nit picking is a quite thing in 2015.
