So, I just returned from a BEAUTIFUL beach wedding. The couple stood at the front, with two vases of flowers signifying the altar. On either side of them were their siblings; that’s it. Behind them, the ocean, with early-evening sunlight.
The attendees sat on benches and chairs. No tents or anything. Shoes optional and fans with printed programs from the bride and groom.
The ceremony was followed by a reception on an outdoor patio overlooking the beach.
It was really breathtaking. I think there were less than 150 people there, and every detail was taken care of with a personal touch. We had a great time! But I can’t see a desi wedding happening like this.
What do you think? Can it be done? Has it been done?
Re: Beach weddings -- can it be done the desi way?
^ lol, so true! I'm not an outdoorsy person anyway, so I can't imagine wanting a beach wedding.. I prefer air conditioning :P BUT, I must say, it does look beautiful!
Garima Singh, a super popular photographer here in the GTA, has shot some desi beach weddings, and they look nice. You can check out the pictures on her blog. So, yes, you can absolutely do a beach wedding if you're brown. My cousin's wife really wanted to do this, but it wasn't feasible for the relatives to actually fly out to a beach and do this. So she ended up doing a golf course wedding. They nikkah'd under a white gazebo laced with roses everywhere! It was super gorgeous! The reception was held inside a banquet hall on the golf course.

I've always always wanted to do this, one of my (non-muslim) friends went to Thailand and got married in such a beautiful ceremoney, and it was sooooooooo reasonably priced. And one of my work colleagues went to Barbados with his family a few months ago and got married there. I think it's easier if you have family who are willing to support you, and not to the whole 'hai hai, what about all the billions of relatives we need to invite'
won't happen for me, though i really really would love to do it :(

i think it'd be so pretty and do-able! you'd obviously have to do it in the summer, around mid-june, i would say in a place like toronto to avoid being too chilly or too hot. and you'd alter your outfit and all that- i wouldn't wear a heavy red jora; probably something light and chiffon-y and floaty and easy to walk down the "aisle" in. it would be so laid back and chill. wonderful!
I think this is one of the main problems.. most desi mums would have a heart attack if their daughters didn’t want to wear a fancy lengha, a sparkly necklace, loads of bangles etc.
I always dreamed of marrying on the beach.. everything v.simple + romantic :hinna:

you could probably do a soft red chiffon without the embroidery and stuff. you'd definitely have to give up some of the traditional desi stuff.

You can do lots of color and flowers, typical of a desi wedding, without all the heavy kaam and jewelry. it will feel tropical rather than the typical beachy wedding.

it was on the list of options but im not sure....plus Irish weather is too unpredictable to have a beach wedding, maybe like a beach engagment or beachside mehndi....hmmm giving me some ideas now :D
