BCG vaccination

Thats the vaccine for TB .. Kiddo is getting one done today .. can anyone tell me if its going to be very painful and sore? for how long and what kind of behaviour can I expect from the kiddo? do they become cranky etc ?

Re: BCG vaccination

well here after vaccination they make you wait 15 to 20 mins to check for soreness, normally there is chance of fever after vaccination so just give baby calpol , it will also help baby is feeling pain. my baby was never cranky , after few minutes back to normal

Re: BCG vaccination

mine didnt even wince… lol  but the later vaccinations made him really fussy n cranky

Re: BCG vaccination

Is he having the allergy test today or the actual vaccination? Kiddo had his this month too, usually it’s later on but he had his as he’s travelled to Pak and therefore exposed to TB. He was fine, no different than any other vaccination he’s had except this is in his arm and he had a scab for a few days afterwards.

Re: BCG vaccination

Guriya was fine after getting BCG. Nurse told me to give her panadol drops if she gets fever.

Re: BCG vaccination

Mine was not cranky at all…just did ahahahaaa…he got two needles…after that he was fine. Doc said in case he is cranky then give a little bit of tylenol..

Re: BCG vaccination

I think he was saying aaaliyaaaa.

Re: BCG vaccination

Usually small babies are fine, but it gets difficult after 1 year they know wht is coming n they don’t forget it easily though its after 6 months but still my baby don’t even let me touch her

Re: BCG vaccination

Congratulations CB!!! Hope all is going well for you all!
My little one had his BCG vaccine while we were still in hospital on day2. He was absolutely fine and the injection didn’t really bug him. It scabbed over but it can get quite ugly whilst healing- weeping and sore so keep an eye on it- didn’t bother him when it went through that phase but i did have the health visitor check it out on more than one occasion!

Re: BCG vaccination

Thanks Saheli :hugz:

Thanks ladies for the advise .. now I am a in a bit of a fix here , coz I read in several places that right after they have administered the vaccine, a small spot occurs indicating that its been done correctly and then after 2 weeks a scab will appear which will be sore ..

but after the injection was done, i didnt see any spot occuring on him , i am confused now, if the vaccine was done successfully or not.. should i wait for two weeks for the scab to appear or should i report back to the medics?

Re: BCG vaccination

I don’t remember my munchkin getting a spot straightaway- think it took a few days- infact i think it just got raised and scabbed over after a few days. keep an eye on it and ask your health visitor/midwife when she comes if you’re worried.
It probably has been administered correctly, i’d be very surprised if not. xx
