I had been experiencing hair loss for a while so I got some blood work done. My doctor told me I was low on estrogen so she referred me to a gynecologist. (I also have problem with my periods being too frequent and long) so I went to see the gynecologist, and she tells me she doesn’t understand why my doctor thinks I am low on estrogen because it varies depending on where you are in your cycle. I also explained her the problem with my periods and hair loss. She prescribed me tri-previfem which I took for about 9 days. I started noticing severe hair loss (a lot worse than it was before the pill) went into depression, broke out with acne, and gained weight. So I called in to reschedule an appointment with the gynecologist and meanwhile went off the pill. I have quit the pill for over a week now but hair loss is still the same. So today I went to my appointment, and the nurse tells me that the gynecologist refuses to see me because she doesn’t deal with depression and hair loss. Now I am extremely upset and don’t know what to do next.
Re: Bc dilemma
I think 9 days is pretty early to be seeing such intense side effects. Regardless, it’s time to find a new OBGYN.
And do go back and talk this over with your GP. Hope things get better for you soon.
Re: Bc dilemma
The trouble is that it’s going to be very hard finding someone who takes the insurance I have and I am not going to get an appointment very soon. Will staying off the pill stop my hair loss and then how long before I see the difference
Re: Bc dilemma
I’m not sure that anyone can answer your question about whether or not staying off the pill will stop the hair loss. This is something that a doctor can answer after having reviewed your complete file and history.
Your best bet is to find another doctor as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, remember that stress aggravates conditions like weight-gain and hair loss so while you are waiting to see a new physician, try to get some rest and relaxation and focus on something else as a distraction.
Re: Bc dilemma
Go back to your GP in the meantime and see if you have a thyroid issue or Vitamin D deficiency. That can cause hair loss.
Re: Bc dilemma
My thyroid is fine. I had it checked recently. How do you get tested for vitamin d deficiency? I don’t know if I am deficient or not but I have recently started taking vitamin d supplement. I have an appointment.with my doc on July 31 so until then I am losing hair like crazy ![]()
Re: Bc dilemma
Vitamin D deficiency is checked by a simple blood test. Your doctor can arrange it for you. Be sure to ask him or her to have it checked for you. If you are Vitamin D deficient then the doctor may prescribe a high dose just taking regular vitamin D supplements may not work in that case. In the meantime try Biotin too, take 5 mg, less than that doesn’t work.
Re: Bc dilemma
The gyno did tell me to take multivitamins and vitamin d 5000 iu everyday. I am currently taking 4000 iu. I haven’t seen any change in hair loss, but I have stopped grinding my teeth. I don’t known if that was due to vitamin d deficiency or not.
