BBC says : Can anyone storm Australia's cricket fortress? I Say : We Will Inshallah

Apart from the odd hiccup, Ricky Ponting’s team are the acknowledged masters in both forms of the game.

With a one-sided Test series win against New Zealand behind them - although the Kiwis have proved tougher in the limited overs format - they are preparing to take on Pakistan, who remain as unpredictable as ever.

Australian cricket is enjoying a golden age and there are few signs of their followers becoming blasé about success.

Fans arriving for a one-day international against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground want their turbo-powered juggernaut to roll on, regardless of how tough or timid the opposition.

“We copped caning after caning against the West Indies (in the 1980s),” 25-year-old Rhys told BBC Sport.

"In five or 10 years time when the Poms are beating us every Ashes series we’ll be crying out for these days again, mate.

“Guys like Warne and Gilchrist we’ll probably never see again. You’ve got to appreciate them while they’re here.”

Despite the best efforts of coaches and officials to continue identifying and devloping talented youngsters, there is an expectation that the wheels of the Aussie express will eventually fall off.

“Everything goes in cycles. There’ll come a time when Australia will be struggling,” said Dane Morrison, a 21-year-old student.

AUSTRALIA’S HOME RECORD SINCE 1/1/2000
Tests Played 29, Won 21, Lost 2, Drawn 6
ODIs Played 58, Won 45, Lost 11, Ties 1, No result 1

Last winter India provided Steve Waugh with a demanding farewell on home soil, the Test series eventually ending 1-1.

The chances of Pakistan raising the anxiety levels of Waugh’s successor Ricky Ponting may depend on the performances of pacemen Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Sami.

The first Test starts on December 16 at the WACA in Perth, traditionally a fast bowler’s paradise.

And Tim Higgins is one Australian supporter who believes his team is far from invincible as the series against Pakistan approaches.

“I certainly think it’s going to be a lot closer than most people think. Under pressure, every team has their faults.”

According to Tim, Australia may have a fundamental Achilles heel.

“The captaincy is fairly weak. I don’t think Ricky Ponting is the best captain compared to the greats such as Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor.”

So far no significant cracks have appeared on Ponting’s watch.

Female supporters get in the Christmas spirit early

While cricket is under pressure for supporters, players and sponsors from the other sports in Australia, it still enjoys a powerful position.

Ron Walters, a self-confessed cricket nut from Vancouver in Canada - and the proud owner of 6,000 books on cricket - lamented the lack of top-quality opposition.

“It’s too one-sided at the moment. When we come to a Test match we expect Australia to win and maybe it is not always as interesting as it could be,” he said.

But the majority are not so hard to satisfy - and Australia’s appeal spans the generations.

“I love watching Matthew Hayden play, but everybody’s great. They’re pretty unbeatable,” enthused 11-year-old Matthew Vandenburg, part of a sizeable young brigade at the SCG.

“It’s always fun. It’s great when the Aussies beat the hell out of the other teams all the time,” said Chrissie Jeffcott, a middle-aged fan.

Pakistan pitch up in Sydney on 2 January for the first Test of 2005 and for Aussie fans, another home win would be the perfect way to start the New Year.

Dream on!!!:smokin:

not to be pessimisticf but the last part of the article is going to be our fate

Wishfull thinking

Our pacers give us a shot other teams dont have. Genuine fast bowlers like Shoaib in the past and Shane Bond also have really troubled the Aussies. But to be honest, I don think our batting is strong enough.

repeat: if there is one thing aussies cant handle its well-directed express pace bowling....

shoaib and sami r our only hopes....

and let us not forget the valuable contribution that kaneria provides in tests....
i think we'll bank on him a lot for this series....

and as everyone knows, no hopes from the batsmen....

Bowling enough isn't gonna win this series. That might have worked against lesser teams like NZ. Against the Aussies, if the batsmen don't show any spine, then we are in for a few really short test matches.

we need a miracle man.

Desired its good that u are thinking positive but pak cant play in these conditions...

may be in the onedayz we show some resistance but the test series is gonna be a nightmare

P.S. I really need to change my signature cauz Yasir Hameed is one useless cricketer

Hope for the best, lets enjoy the series

ha ha ha :) Cant stop laughin. ha ha ha ha:) u serious that pak wil beat auusies. pak is the team that Bagladesh beated so badly..

Ill say only Mighty Indians can beat the looser auusies. we beat them in last tests. we r in form now and we r goin 2 trash them if they even cme near us... thats a Promise...

Bangla ko maar ke khush ho rahay ho, Australian phenty bhool gaye? you definitely got short memory.

Pakistan is certainly capable of doing that but what are the chances since they haven't done any miracle in last few years.
