Battle of the Giants (Not Hand egg game) but Mac Vs. PC!

Okay so here is the thing today my dad’s LCD monitor broke, therefore now he’s sitting and complaining and is on my case to get it fixed. Since we don’t live in Pakistan its really hard to find any monitor repair shops around. So I’ve decided to make his life easier by getting him an iMac. Now the question is should I?

Let me first start by describing the problems with his current computer. Its a PC has windows 7 on it and about 4 gig of ram, it is customized to its limits with a video card power supply ram etc but its still slow. My dad always complains that its slow. However when I sit on it, it works as well as a japanese sword slicing a baby panda in half. But here is the deal, I can get him the new iMac (a present from my self for all the years of him never agreeing to buy a mac and me drooling over a mac and customizing my windows xp to look like Mac OS, which sucked BTW it was all choppy— But i digress). I mean the new iMac is $1300 and I want that PC to last a good 10 years before I upgrade it again, I don’t want the iMac’s screen blowing out like the current LCD.

So what do you guys say? Go for the iMac or just get a new monitor?

Now the reason why I’m getting him the iMac is that it’s ease of use. My dad uses Photoshop a lot is always having difficulty organizing pictures on the computer. By giving him the iMac he could better manage his picture library. There are also other software that work well with the Mac OS such as Aperture and Final Cut pro (he also edits videos).

Please discuss.

“Hand Egg” is a reference to the American football which is absolutely horrid.

Thank you for the explanation of what an hand egg is.. :cb:

As for the iMac…I think I’ll not say anything as I have never used one…I think Nikki or someone else who has used both should be able to give a better opinion…

Oh well if you can afford it, and if your dad uses photo/video editors such as those, then why not an iMac. But then again, a monitor is so much cheaper if YOU think your PC works fine. Maybe clean it up for more efficiency. And please please no slicing pandas. You should be jailed for that thought.

And while you’re in your purchasing mood, get me one too Pends. Remember you owe me the $1500 you borrowed from me last year when you bought a new motorcycle, crashed into the food cart in Jackson Heights and lost your memory?

Les pandas sont savoreux:D

I dont’ recall the Jackson heights debacle :P. I’m still confused as to the whole iMac thing. But since I have a working PC i think I’m just gonna get a monitor

Re: Battle of the Giants (Not Hand egg game) but Mac Vs. PC!

You still don’t have your memory back. sheesh

But yes, you do realize that when you buy the Mac, you’d have to buy all sorts of spensive software too.

I would buy him a new monitor, or may be two and replace his primary HDD with SSD .

Mac is little bit too controlling for my taste .

Re: Battle of the Giants (Not Hand egg game) but Mac Vs. PC!

I wonder how many people here are on macs  We should have a poll!

Buy new monitor then install Ubuntu.

for $1300 you can get him:

  • Double the memory to 8GB
  • Get an awesome video card with dual DVI ports
  • 2 x 21" monitors
  • A tube of Häagen-Dazs ice-cream to thank him for all the wonderful years of upbringing, training and caring that he’s provided, rather than complaining about things he didn’t buy you.
