** A batsman was killed by lightning during a club match in Australia yesterday (Jan 24). **
David Evans, 31, was batting in the match at Bomaderry, on the south coast of New South Wales, when a bolt of lightning hit his helmet. The strike was so intense that it shattered his bat and left a hole in the pitch. Seven fielders were also knocked to the ground, and two of them - a 13-year-old boy and his father - were slightly injured. Two women were injured by another bolt nearby.
Graeme Sawkins, Bomaderry’s secretary, said of the tragedy: “It wasn’t even stormy at the time. We all said before the game started that if it was stormy we’d stop play, but it was quite clear.”
Violent storms in the area left 8000 people without power; some roads were flooded by rain, and homes damaged by hailstones.

Well, he got his name splashed across world media. Its much more than you can say for millions of other blokes who die every day.
