What material is your bathroom floor? is it tiles , wood, laminate or any other stuff?
I am just wondering how often the upkeep of the flooring is required .. I have tiled floors but the grout seems to be coming off and loosening in certain places .. its been a little over two years .. perhaps its due to the cleaning and bleach I use … hence asking this question
We have tiles. I usually clean floor with broom to remove hair and dust. Than either I dip mop in water mixed with soap or I gently wash floor with water. And it turn out great.
CB - I think this really depends on what they have been laid on and how well they have been laid.
In my parents house, the upstairs and downstairs bathroom were done at the same time. The upstairs is the old part of the house and the tiles were placed on top of floorboards. The downstairs was newly built and the floor was concrete (being the ground floor) and therefore obviously totally flat with no movement possible. So it's been like 12 years and the downstairs are still pristine in regards to tiles and grout but the upstairs has been replaced once already and has needed doing again for a while.
Now, I don't know what can really put down before the tiles to prevent this... mostly likely you can't. But it's worth asking a builder.
I prefer tiles over anything else but if this is a really big problem for you, you can look into high quality, thick vinyl flooring.
yeah you are right stoppit , our downstairs bathroom is strong as ever .. more so due to concrete flooring below the tiles ... the first floor bathroom and the second floor bathroom , both are having serious issues though .. I think it may be due to the fact that there is constant movement in the floor boards and that loosens the tiles ...
I have decided though , that when we redo the bathroom all together , I will go for a Vinyl sheet as well .. coz I think thats best suited to the UK homes ...
For now , these were really expensive tiles I do want to use them for another year or two before discarding them :(
Yeh, you can get vinyl sheets that look like tiles or even individual vinyl tiles. As long as they are done proerply and the edges finished properly, you shouldn't have any issues. We need to do that bathroom again anyway so we will probably do the same.
yeah , I was at Toolstation an hour ago , saw this wax grout stuff .. I think it stops the water from going through the grout .. considering getting that for now ...
