Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

So Tendulkar unfortunately still did not get its 100[SUP]th[/SUP] century today…but frankly speaking I fail to understand that after 22 years in international cricket, scoring almost100 centuries, breaking every conceivable batting record and winning a world cup (and age 38),
what would it take for Tendulkar to hang up its boots for a youngster to step in and plan for Indiana cricket’s future…..

People would have an argument that till the time he is playing well , it should not matter what is his age or for how many years is he playing.. youngsters need to “EARN” a place in Team India (like Sachin did when he was 16)…

The problem with this argument is that we will get into chicken and egg type discussion…I mean it is hard for a youngster to cement the place as long as a mighty giant like Tendulkar is hanging around and keep coming back to play for eveyr other series.…

tell me one freakin reason why is tendulakr playing this meaningless series agaianst WI in india instead of giving a chance to a youngster?..except mahan selfless tendulkar wants to score his 100th century!..when team india needed him in England he did not perform at all…

just look at ashwin performance in this series….he is bowling beautifully and then cracked a century last nite…imagine if kumble was still playing…ashwin would have never got a chance!

Bas kar muna bhai..bas kar!

He Is GOD of India!

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar…bas kar!

hang the boots already, u aint gonna get the 100th one :stuck_out_tongue: :nono:.

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar…bas kar!

team india needed him again in the 4th innings against WI but mahan devata jee aaj pher 3 par hee lurakh gayae…

Devata jee refused to play against WI in WI but did not miss the chance to play against them in india…obviously to score that manhoos 100th century and also to imporve average that got some beating in england…

mahan ha aap devata jee mahan…keep playing until we have to bring you into the ground on a stretcher, take you off it, pad you up and then help you hold the bat…dont let a poor youngester to cement his place in the team because that poor lad will be playing under your giant shadow…

at least dravid is scoring runs almost at every cruical moment…but app to devta jee bas reputation par hee chal rahay hain…

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

So what's the problem if he wants to score his 100th century? He's playing well enough and deserves a place in the team. It's not every day that a record is magnitude is on the verge of being achieved. Would you rather wait another 100 yeas for anyone to be even close to this mark?

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

As expressed in other posts, the hype around the 100th 100 is super annoying to me too. It will happen when it will happen. Great performances by Bravo and David are being ignored for this nonsense!!

But, your calls for him to retire all together make little sense, IMO. His performance has been pretty good in the last 3 years.

Totally agreed that we should give chances to younger players.. but Sachin alone occupies only 1 spot!! He is not single handedly stopping other players. Virat, Raina, Pujara all are given chances regularly.. Pujara less so because of injuries.

The bigger players are often rested for some bilateral series (like the WI tour).. but thats been happening more so in ODI series.

But yeah, ideally.. I would have had Sachin, Dravid and Laxman each sit out 1 test game at a time for these 3 WI tests.

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar…bas kar!

I will take a slightly different view on this. IMO age should not be a barrier if a senior player is fit and performing well.

So what if Sachin’s 100th hundred is taking longer than expected; so what if it’s been a while since he scored his 99th international hundred (111 vs South Africa during the world cup in March 2011). Tendulkar may be 38 now but he can still justify his place in both ODI and test formats on the basis of his recent batting performances.

I, however, agree that Ponting should retire if he continues to struggle in the home tests against India as well. His form has been on the decline for some 18-24 months. Now, he’s no longer captain, and his batting form no longer justifies a place in the side, especially at his age

True Sachin had a miserable time in England (2011 test series) but unlike Ponting, he has been in reasonably good form of late

And it is not like Sachin is 45 now. Both Dravid and Sachin should continue playing cricket for another 1-2 years (tests atleast)

Youngsters must wait until they are good enough to replace an established player…

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

and by the same token, Misbah, 37 (although not in the same league as Sachin) should carry on leading Pakistan in both tests and ODIs for as long as he can justify his place in the team on batting form. His age should be a non-issue atleast until such time he is performing well.

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

agree 100 %

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

Just for the record, the "other post" Sharabee is referring to - was supposed to be a thread started for 3rd Test with Windies. I added in prediction for 100th century just to get some eyeballs and create some tamasha. He hapened to come quite close.

Agree with Phoenixdesi - then read Sharabee's post - agreed with his points also.

I do believe Tendulkar plays for himself first. As PD points out, he did not go to Windies, but is available to play against them at home. In the previous test, with India chasing ~ 260, Tendulkar sent Laxman back when there was a single (leg bye?) to be had at the beginning of the over. Clearly he did this to maximize the deliveries he faced. And he made some really uncharacteristic shots - one of which led to his dismissal. Rather than making it top priorit to get India to the total safely, he made it a priority to get a century.

He never comes in a position other than 2-down, even if that means others had to dance around the batting order.

His dismissal at 94 was caused because for last ove 2rs, Kohli had been facing most of the overs. So with one ball to go, he got antsy and went for a bad shot.

Rather than let the flow of the game allow him to reach his 100, he forced it - yet again.

Having said all of that, technically, he is still extremely sound - his stroke making is still excellent. In spite of being a Laxman fan, if I were to choose between the two, Tendulkar has to be retained. I would rather make room for youngsters at the xpense of Laxman, Dravid and Tendulkar, in that order.

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar…bas kar!

I think SRT wants to play 200 Test Matches and Next World cup as well to be the first player playing 7 World cups :cobra: keep it up :hbk:

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

Aap logo ne God wala statement bahut seriously le liya.
few news papers headlines dont make him god. better description of his status in india would be "god like".

nyways, i can tell you one thing for sure. the day he retires a huge percentage of people will stop following cricket as they watch the matches just for him.
other sports are picking up in india very fast and india where cricket is a religion at present is in a lot of tough times ahead.

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

Quantitatively, can’t make a case….but then how would you plan for future? I guess I posted the thread with one question in mind. *At age 39, why is he playing against WI under easy home conditions? Isn’t this the best time for a youngster to play the full series against a weaker opponent and gain confidence? Just answer this question plz. *

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

I agree with this - though in this specific case, since India had received a 4-0 drubbing, probably we needed to put our best foot forward. Ijjath kaa sawaal tha, IMO.

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

Tendulkar or no Tendulkar the scoreline would'nt have changed. I felt it would have been better if he was not playing.

Re: Bas kar bhai tendulkar.....bas kar!

^ Not sure about that. We forget that in the 1st Test, India was neck deep in trouble. The 2nd inning target of (350?) was not that easy. Could have gone either way without the veterans.

And hindsight is 20/20 - the selectors probably wanted to ensure India gained some semblance of respectability after the rout in England.

I stiil agree with Phoenix - India needs to blood some youngsters. But one thing being overlooked (Sharabee has addressed this) Yuvraj and Raina have been given too many chances in Tests - other players should have been given chances instead of them - before Tend, Dravid or Laxman are sacked.
