Desis are widely acclaimed to be expert bargain hunters and they critically analyse the worthiness of every product (even toilet rolls!) before buying it!
Are you a bargain hunter? My mother and all other aunties sure are! Especially in Pakistan … Man, it gets so embarrassing and crazy sometimes …
Shopkeeper: Do hazaar madam.
Mum: 1200 mein dena hai tau baat karo.
Shopkeeper: laughs
Mum:
Shopkeeper: stops laughing .. Madam 1500 mein tau hum ne khareeda hai.
Mum: 1200.
Shopkeeper: …
Mum: Theek hai Allah Hafiz.
Me: :o
lol Mum’s explaination for bargaining is that the shopkeepers never tell you the real fair price at first so you have to bring it down yourself… I iz too shy to bargain hence I never shop alone in Pakistan … I once bought chooriyan on my own, didn’t bargain one bit and the dude ended up giving me a whole bunch of free mehendi coz he was obviously charging me way too much! =/
I am a fantastic bargain hunter,
just yesterday my wife told me gap was having a 35% off sale so if i wanted anything I can save 35%
and i replied, ..or i dont buy anything and save a 100% :D
When ever I go with mom to any boutique, where prices are tagEd and fixed,I remind my mom 1000 times plZ don’t barGain because thier price is final,
But still she will go like,
Tag ko rehne de ap,final bataye kitne Mai dege?
Ah yes my mum is an expert at this too. I hate bargaining, I normally just fold at the first price quoted because I can't be bothered with the hassle, unless its excessively high in which case I do ask for a better price.
My mom and dad both does bargaining. It does not embarrass me. Usually in the end the shop keeper ends up agreeing with my parent. In pakistan i rarely do bargaining well zaroorat hi nahi parti my mom and dad are always with me when i shop. and in the end i cant bargain like them.
if there is an item which i am liking and the shopkeeper wont agree on the price then i leave the item there and bring my dad or mom next time to bargain in a better way and get the item for me. hahahaha
