Since the mid-term elections, people from the center and Democratic Party are increasingly calling for Barrack Obama’s running for office in ’08. He is a senator of Illinois whose key not address at Democratic National Convention made him a ‘rock star’.
Is he the real deal, or just being ‘used’ by the Democratic Party? American politics is more about timing and meeting the criteria of the era; can he make an impact on the next Presidential Elections in ’08?
Obama is not ready for this. he is being touted as such because he represents the new dems. I would gladly see him as a VP but I dont know if he is presidential material just yet.
In '08, we will have an America with enormous debt, Iraq and Afghanistan disappearing and over-increasing pressure to solve illegal-immigration and the never ending pursuit of catching Osama Bin Laden. Unless President Bush and Democratic Congress can solve this before '08 elections, I do not see either Edwards or Obama as President or VP. They do not have the credentials to appeal to the mainstream American voters.
I see them being used by Democratic party to raise money for their campaings. Obama helped alot Democrats this mid-term, do not know whether they will give him the political support when the race nears.
Dem's didn't win this election because of what they stood for. they won because of Anti republican sentiment. and with all the things you mentioned above, it will get them the white house.
last night on charlie, carter favored gore as well.
i wont think he would though, else he would be proved to be a hypocrite (again). look you can talk environment all day as a civillian, but its not even in your agenda once you become president or vp. http://www.counterpunch.org/frank05312006.html
I dont think so, if he ran today he would win.
GOp will roll out Mccain this year and his time has passed now, had we won the primary against W it would have been something but now I dunno.
It is going to mcCain from GOp side though I am fairly certain of that, or maybe rudy guiliani..
I don't think he can ever win as a President. No matter how good he is, he's still black. Atleast partly. And US is not yet ready for a colored President.
I've seen his interviews and he does make some sense...but it's wishful thinking. He's on Leno tonight.
He would make a FANTASTIC president! I don't think he'll pull it off in 2008 (tho I can hope), but maybe when he's got a bit more experience. I'm not sure that lots of southerners would be supportive of a "colored" president from chicago, that's true, but again- one can hope (cuz he has such potential). He is definetely not just "putting on a show"- I really think he's a great guy.
^^
thats right.
One thing that I just thought - because of his half black heritage, he might be able to get maximum black votes even from republicans. Also it may have some influence on immigrants such as hispanic community etc.
It is going to mcCain from GOp side though I am fairly certain of that, or maybe rudy guiliani..
How could Americans forgive McCain after he sold out on:
a. the torture bill albeit being tortured himself in vietnam.
b. Military Commissions Act rendering Habeas corpus null and void.
Mc Cain is no different than any other political survivalist out there.
Nobody would be a better candidate for the country than Al Gore, man's got integrity!
Most of the evengelicals did not vote due to controversies. If someone wants to win White House, he has to win South and Midwest. Edwards in '04 did not appeal to South and Midwest, I do not see him or Obama popular in either of those territories and Vice Presidents are mostly to boost base and the hard line party memebers, Obama and Edwards are neither, do not see where they have the edge?
The new Democrats are mostly in Blue states, I do not see them making the difference in '08.
I'm all for something new....some kinda change. I'm all for Obama running for presidential candidate....and im looking forward to seeing what he has up his sleeve. In fact...i think hillary clinton would make a great candidate as well.
Ironically, the longer he stays in the Senate, the less electable as President he becomes. Just ask Gore, Kerry and Dole. The more of a voting record you generate, the more your opponent can find things to pin against you.
I hope he runs. It’s not like he’ll have much less experience in government than when Dubya started, and you never know when your last chance is going to come.
I bet if Colin Powell had to do it all over again he’d have ran for President in 2000.
