Banu Ummaya

To those who have lived in Arab countries for long or interact with Arabs on daily basis … have you ever met some one who claims to be from Banu Ummaya ?

Do they still exist ?

Re: Banu Ummaya

I'm sure you will find one in Pakistan.

Re: Banu Ummaya

I think its really very difficult to trace people to the tribal lineage of those times.......the reason why the actual sayyids are not traceable........

Re: Banu Ummaya

Yes we may /may not - Never seen one claiming

I am not asking about credibility of the lineage - at least people ( even falsely ) claim to be Syeds - Banu Hashim ] ...

My question was - have you ever met any one - claiming his/her lineage to Banu Ummaya

Re: Banu Ummaya

All those zalim and jabbir Muslim rulers from present day are somehow are other related to Banu Ummaya. :)

Re: Banu Ummaya

I think i understand where you are going with this.
You will meet people who arnt syed but they will claim they are syed because its such a noble family.

On the other hand you might have met real umayads but they wont claim they are one becoz its an insult.

Re: Banu Ummaya

Three points/questions on this:

  1. Does anyone know that the clan of Banu Hashim and the clan of Banu Umayya (Abd Shams) share the same ancestor, Abd Manaf ibn Qusai? meaning that Abd Shams and Hashim were brothers. Children of Abd Shams became clan of Banu Ummaya and Children of Hashim became clan of Banu Hashim within the Quresh?

  2. Does anyone know that the third rightly guided Caliph of Islam, Usman ibn Affan (ra) was from the clan of Banu Ummaya?

  3. Does anyone know that after Banu Umayya were thrown out from Arabia by Abbasid Caliphate, they established their rule from North Africa to Andulusia (Spain), which to date is considred a golden period of Islamic Caliphate with the name of Cordoba Caliphate?

ps, no I am not from Banu Umayya.

Re: Banu Ummaya

yes met arabs in Kuwait and UAE who says that they belong to Banu-Ummaya... so it what is the point here? Met many claiming that they are from Bani-Makhzoom, the clan of Khaled Bin Waleed (RZA)

Re: Banu Ummaya

well the point it - I have read a statement in this month's Sayyara digest - where it is stated that Mulana Tariq Jameel said in his bayaN ; despite meeting and living with arabs from ages , he has never met any one who claims to be from Banu - Ummaya ... ChunKe Allah Tallah ko Zulum Pasand nahii hai - jabhi Banu Umaaya ka koi naam layva nahii hai ..

And as i have no access to Mulana - and I just want to check the health of the statement associated to him, so posted as a question on this forum ...

wayse Abbasi'yun ne bi kaam zulum nahii kia tah ...

Re: Banu Ummaya

Molana is a great tabhlighi, but like all Tablighi brothers, he is a weak aalim. They sometimes pass things along without confirming them. Molana's statement about no naam leva of Banu Ummayaa may be one of those claims

Re: Banu Ummaya

There might be many decedents of Banu Ummayaa , but they are not naam lewa of Banu Ummayaa meaning they will not feel proud of their ancestors and that is what Moulana is referring to.

Re: Banu Ummaya

I understood that. I was just thinking that how can someone make such a huge universal claim. that is what I was referring to.

Re: Banu Ummaya

what makes you say that he is a weak Aalim?

Re: Banu Ummaya

Tablighis focus on fazaa'il and in that context, they refer to Hikayaat/Rivayaat/Ahadees that are not strong. To be on his side, that is why he never passes fatwaas anyways. But that makes the ilm weak, means that you cannot refer to Tabllighi scholars with confidence that if they said it, it must be true. You always want to cross check the info.

Re: Banu Ummaya

well he received some Islamic education at Jamiya Rasheediya and then later completed the Aalim course at Jamiya Arabia - raiwind ....

An aalim with a Sanad ( where he studied Quran, Hadith, Sharia, Tasawwuf, mantaq and Fiqh ) cant be a weak Aalim :)
