You can say that again. They tend to be misers and penny pinching folks who will forgo meals in order to save money. Yes, I know I am generalizing, but I have known a few in my college days to make the above statement.

I spent the summer in NYC, and I skipped breakfast every morning, had salad kay pathay and chic peas for lunch only (sometimes, instead I'd buy a peach or some strawberries or cherries for like a dollar and eat that instead), and then used to make a homemade quesedilla made of tortilla pitas and monterey jack cheese.
I tried to keep each meal under 2 bucks.
Oh yeah, and I found this one chinese place that gave lots of food - lunch special - for like 5 bucks I think. And then I made that last for 4 meals.
My parents had to send me money to get me to eat more, since I didn't want to spend much of the money I was making.
Oh yeah, and that nightly monterey jack cheese ended up giving me kidney stones later on.
But I guess I do fit the memon bill in that respect.

Why blame just memons for dowry? There are so many ethnic groups in India with this stupid practice. Again, in Saudi Arabia, bride's father demands money from his prospective son in law. This money happens to be so hefty, that Saudi Govt used to offer interest free loan (rather than curbing this practice) to Saudi youths to help them marry. When Saudi govt became cash starved then this marriage loan was stopped. Today, the unmarried saudi youths are the most feared group. There have been a numerous cases of sexual assault by Saudi youths which is never reported in the media. Since I have been to that country, so I know these stories. So please don't blame memons, because I am also a MEMON and I haven't taken a dowry to marry.
