I am glad you brought the case of America and its handling of internal dissidents. Here are few examples for you and I hope you learn from them.

  1. Civil War - Abraham Lincoln the biggest believer in democracy beat the crap out of Southern Rebels. So much so that his generals burned miles wide swath between Atlanta Georgia all the way to Swanna. Southern army commanded by Rebel Gen. Lee was crushed and Richmond was burned. 650,000 died in that bloody war and you want to tell me that Americans don't use force on their own people.

  2. Your brother Dawood Qurashi (David Koresh) made a mistake of attacking a swat team. The whole scene was captured on TV. Guess what? The government brought in helicopters and tanks in the middle of Texas. The result?

They burned down the whole darned complex, women, kids and that Koreshi included.

  1. Rubi ridge: The fugitive was attacked and his wife was killed.

Note that these days by law American army doesn't operate inside the country. However they have national guards who can use tanks, F-16 airplanes and all the modern weaponry and believe me they are no less equipped than the army.

I wish we learn from Americans as to how to deal with our miscreants and terrorists. That will be the day our country will be strong and powerful just like America.

All three of your examples were instances of internal disputes where no foreign element had anything to gain and/or interfere. Southerners did try to get European help through diplomacy but it didnt work out. Here we have wahabi money from saudia supporting these jihadists, while india has consulates operating just miles into the afghan border (God knows what their intentions are). Then we have Chinese weapons being smuggled into Afghanistan via our border to destabilize nato forces, plus some folks within ISI have shown signs of defection. And not to leave good old USA out, they have no plans of declaring BLA a terrorist organization anytime soon, so we might assume that they wanna keep the baloach separatist card as a threat to iran (just like in their inability to deal with PKK, even through it hurts their interests with turkey, but an independent kurdistan involves taking a large chunk out of iran too). Its like a perfect storm out there.

That is what we should've done right from the beginning, seems like either we never understood implications of one thing or the other in beginning or want to make a habit of "U-turn" wherever we like, against whomever we like.

We can let them kill each other if that is what they want, but we should seal the borders so there is no infiltration from here to Afghanistan or vice versa.

"Terrorists" were created by "funding, training as well as educating", we **cannot undo **that by simply bombing them.

Why we didn't do it in the beginning?

Short answer is! Hind sight is always 20/20, and anyone criticizing Pakistan is simply doing "Monday morning quarter-backing".

The long answer is the threat of Russia and commies kept us as sugar daddy for the tribals for such a long time.

Now that the threat of Commies is gone, and a real threat of NATO attack is there, we had to act.

However these so called pillers of our FATA/PATA policy have one serious issue. That why we didn't build 6 lane highways through this area. Why we didn't force these areas to open up?

Again we knew that any force used here will bring in Commie support for an uprising and surely we couldn't trust these tribals that they won't get money from Russia and do their bidding.

Even now, tribals are doing the bidding for Arab terrorists. Everything else like Shria etc. is a hogwash.

If Sharia was that good of a deal, how come the same Tribal areas are the dens of smuggling, drug trade, illegal weapon trade etc.

In Swat you could buy a car for 2 lakhs (200K) rupees which sells in main land for 4 times the money. You know why? because no custom is paid on it.

So if Sharia meant rule of law, stoppage of smuggling, and other haram khori, well it aint happening.

and what guarantees that what we are doing today we won't make a u-turn tomorrow? Changing attitude/thinking of a nation just to fulfill other's desires will always come to bite you in the behind either today or tomorrow.

sorry to say but mushy and the army gave a safe haven to the terrorists. he is as guilty as zia and benazir. mush has the chancwe to nip it in the bud back in 2001 yet he did nt. maybe it was "rogue elements" in the isi - who knows.

mushy has not done much to deal with the swat stiuation just letting it build up.
