Sir, that is not the issue at hand...... the issue is volume being so Loud, that it pierces thru your ears!!!, almost like the loud speaker is in your bedroom blaring at you. then these loud speakers are not only used for azan, they are also used for constant naats even before its sehr time, and then constantly used for announcements and such.
You know, I gotta be honest. Whenever I've visited Karachi, the azaan has never been able to wake me up unless I was in jetlag. I sleep right thru it. My mom would have to wake me up, otherwise I'd keep sleeping.
Don't understand why there is so much griping on the issue.
i sympathize with the thread starter Balram and just do not understand how people can give remarks like," no body complains on loud music".
why do you compare music to aazan and giving this logic would make any one understand the importance of aazan
Aazan should be in a very moderate manner in a locality where there are Muslims and that too it should not cause any pain to any one
In a locality where there are few muslims, they should simply kep alarms on their watches and aazan should only be confined to mosque
you can call me heretic but there were no watches at the time of prophet so aazan was a reminder of impending Salaat, also one human shouting at the peak of his voice cannot disturb some one even next door
but loud speaker, you can really make people deaf and there is no compulsion in Islam, we Muslims make fun of our religion our selves by giving such funny remarks, the person was very right that if the religion is as attracctive as we portray why we need loud speakers for aazan, very well said, the one who has to say his prayers can go on his own watch and who does not want will pretend not to listen the loudest Aazan
I have yet to see a person whose gone deaf cause of the Azaan.
People who are advocating a ban on loud speakers forget the point that the loudspeakers are planted on top of a tall minarette. Hence, no matter how close you live to the masjid, the sound will not have a damaging effect on your ears.

Well the cases might not be that much but believe you me that one of my uncle's house, the loud speaker was exactly at the same level as the roof and in summers they had to sleep on the roof because of heat in Bahawalpur, but till Azaan it is OK, but the maulvee sahab starts his Waaz every thursday night in mosque till late night, even on syaing that please refrain to aazan only, he refused point blank and said that you are stopping an 'Kar-e-khair" and you will be punished if you say that preaching "naikee" is bad. Now who says preaching bnaikee is bad but why it be on a loud speaker till late night. similarly Azaan in Muslim communities is good but definitely in places where there are more persons of other religions than Muslims, you might just give it in mosque and the people will automatically come on time ( in case they say so, if they tolerate, you can continue). remember Azaan is just a call for prayer and not prayer it self so be it on loud speaker or without does not make any difference, so we should not get sentimental on it, some body says that do not go to mosque, now that is an issue to be sentimental
