Banned books from the Bible

did anyone watch this show last night on the History channel?
mainly concerned many books not included in the bible but the never mentioned this one
http://www.barnabas.net
how can we know that these books that were banned may have been part of the real injeel as some of their stories were very similar to those in the Quran
esp. apocalypse of peter where it is claimed that jesus(PBUH) was never crucified

Re: Banned books from the Bible

WHy?

Something interesting?

I planned to watch it but the topic didn't interest me that much (afterall we know how many changes have been made to bible already).

I wanted to watch that 'Little Ice age: big chill' but had to go to work! :(

Re: Banned books from the Bible

if you get a chance do watch it

Re: Banned books from the Bible

I watched it, very interesting program... I think banned books were called the apocraphals or something...
Im not sure how these stories were similar to Islamic ones.. All I rembebr is the story of the fallen angels, who propagated with some human women and gave brith to some really monstorous demonds ...

Re: Banned books from the Bible

I think they made a movie about it and showed it on SciFi! :hehe:

Re: Banned books from the Bible

not the one u mentioned but the other ones were concerning Iblees ,Mary, crucifiction and others

Re: Banned books from the Bible

Yeah, its a fact that there is alot of accounts on the life of Jesus Chirst which were ignored... If we could find some kind of correlation between those accounts and Islam, it would be an incredible boun for Islam and its credibilty in the eyes of non Muslims.

Re: Banned books from the Bible

They always say that these stories were just "borrowed" from the early christians by Mohammad(saw).

Re: Banned books from the Bible

That is what I heard... Thats what most secular researchers say about Islam in general. That its just an amalgamation of christianity and Judaism...
But did the prophet have access to these stories, and were they that well known that he was able to hear them from the few Christians thst crossed his path? I mean, it doesnt make sense, I doubt the Prophet could have heard it fromjust general christian travelers, because there is no way that the average christian would know of such gospels since such things were in the hands of the clergy. And if he did hear it from the clergy, why would they tell him such stories, clergy tend to stick to the facts as they see it, and none of them believed in the apocraphals and thus wouldnt have told the prophet of them...

Re: Banned books from the Bible

Also the other thing is that Allah never claims to have sent down a brand new religion radically different from others it was after all the faith of abraham.so if the stories in the Quran and in some banned books of bibles(which could have been the injeel??) are similar it cannot be held against Islam, infact it is consistent with islamic teachings.

Interesting read

Re: Banned books from the Bible

I havent done much reading, but from what I have read, the Prophet (SAW) was an amazing human being. Apart from the miracle of the Qur'an, there are many other aspects about him and what he said which made people follow the message of Islam. He was absolutely astonishing. What I find sad is that for most of my life i didnt even know these things, and I am sure there are lots of things I still dont know about him(SAW) and what he said. But indeed, it wasnt only his knowledge of religion that set him apart from others. Mash'Allah.

Well actually it is many christians who think "Jews are chosen ones" (they were back in days of Moses but not anymore..) and Jews think that as well that christians are gentiles!

Coming to this islam is an amalgamation of christianity and judaism, I remember an interesting point. There is a belief in jewish theorists that had it not been for Jews, christianity can't survive (Moses, Jesus came from the Isaac line of Prophet Abraham) while Islam (Prophet MUhammad is a descendent of Ismail, which becomes a different family line from Prophet Abraham).

So in theory, even if the Isaac line was erased, muslims would still survive due to their linkage with the ismaili line of prophets!
