What is a good bank in the west-US? My husband was telling me that the bank I am currently with may go bankrupt…that is kinda scary. So now I want to change banks…which is a good reliable bank that does not take out pathetic fees? Any suggestions? My husband loves Bank of America…but they charge over little things. What do u guys think???
Re: Banks in the West
You might know your deposit is insured up to 100k by FDIC , so even if the bank goes bankrupt your deposit will be paid by FDIC. If your deposit is more than 100k then surely take your money out of that bank immediately. Otherwise the fear of your bank going bankrupt should not be the only reason to switch banks.

Pyari,
Which state do you live in? I wonder if they have Capital One there. That's where I have my checking and saving account as well as my credit card. I am not sure what kind of fees you are concerned about, but their fees aren't high and I always try not to do anything that's going to cause me fee payment.

The question is not about high/low fees, rather vulnerability-to/possibility-of bank going bankrupt, which bank(s) is less likely to go bankrupt so she/they can move their account to safer bank.

Answer would remain the same. It's a multinational company (Canada, UK, and a couple of other countries in Europe). They recently bought Northfork in NY/NJ market. I doubt if they'll go bankrupt any time soon.
Re: Banks in the West
Wells Fargo is a good bank and they are all over CA (I guess).
Re: Banks in the West
I have an account in Wells Fargo .. they are OK .. but I recommend Credit Unions if you want to stay away from fees
Re: Banks in the West
dont know if you have Washington Mutual in CA but its one of the better banks with minimal to no fees.
Re: Banks in the West
for UK I would have to say HSBC - sorry off topic :$

It's not off topic, HSBC is everywhere. I'm in Canada and my account's with them.
HSBC is the world's biggest bank. You can't really go wrong with them if there's one near you.
Re: Banks in the West

May be Capitol One bank is not going to go bankrupt. One has to know about how much a bank has oversold itself in mortgage business and how much does it possess in non-mortgage assets to avoid bankruptcy.
