I wish that boys take some bold step,n tell their moms to stop taking dowry n stuff,do a simple Nikah...and avoid lavish traditions wich are jus a waste of money.
The boys who took such decisions are not appreciated or considered as alien to this world. A collective effort is required against these useless traditions
jhooTii anaa, jhooTii shaan and to show how rich they are...it's a status symbol and a status statement.
in olden days, parents gave gold jewelry as an investment for the newlywed couples. there was so much sentimental value attached to the gold that they would go hungry but never think of selling them.
the other reason to give so much gold to their daughters was to help them in having some jewelry set aside for each of their grand children for their marriages.

I don agree here,I think qatra qatra daria banta hai,one should step forward others will follow, but first one should hv confidence in himself that he will face the negatives head straight..

Hasan yea bhi tha Magar pehlai dekha sa nai hota tha I guess Jo dais aka tha who deta tha...but Ab tho limits cross hain...I mean ppl will talk a day or two after that it will be ur own life.
I think our Culture is badly affected by Hinduism...the wedding rasams n all that goes with it...mehandi,mayoon,dowry,we hv forgotten Wht Islam teaches us..all these things are making a simple Sunnah (shadi)hard for those who can't afford.
I think badly is very strong word, what is bad in our wedding Rasms, these rasms are not in anyway offending anybody personally, I know it may not be acceptable in your religion but there is nothing bad in it.
Again, Dowry by concept is StreeDhan, the gifts that parents of bride gives her, and most of the times, brides parent give her son-in-law voluntarily :)

I used the word badly here becuz,in recent times these rasams hv taken a bad shape,I mean ppl are bound to spend fortune,on these rasams, and it's a burden on gals parents I m in sure in old times these rasams would hv simplicity in them..:)

Yeah some give volentarily, but mst give becuz they hv no other way...many gals are sitting in their houses jus becuz her parents can't afford the dowry, and the others are not willing to stop taking it..

Then it is matter of not following hindusim properly, it is not the fault of hinduism by concept. If I make statement like "Purdah system prevalent in north India is more because of bad practice of Burqa of Islam", Does this look sound even?

In priciple, Rasms are still alright, and many of even yours have gone in the same way. There is nothing wrong in our Rasms both principally and theologically, people misuse them for furthering their own goals, and all this is much better known to muslims as Islam is probably most misused religion since centuries for furthering political and personal goals. Does that make Islamic practices corrupt.
