On the 16th of December millions of people in Bangladesh and Bangladeshis around the world will celebrate Victory day. On this day in 1971, the Pakistani army surrendered to the Indo-Bangladeshi High Command in Dhaka, ending a 9 month war of independence. Pakistani General AAK Niazi surrendered officially to the Allied forces commander General Arora.

Bangladesh gained independence after 9 months of a long and bloody struggle. India also commemorates victory over Pakistan on the same day in 1971 on Vijay Diwas.

I as a Muslim, born in Britain whose parents are from Bangladesh do not celebrate this day nor regard it as a day of victory. How can their be victory and celebration when one Muslim country is divided and separated into 2 parts?

Nationalism divides Muslims and keeps us weak while unity and regulation of society based upon Islam unites and strengthens us.

InshAllah Pakistan will be re-unified again soon and millions of us East Pakistani Muslims make dua and work for unity again based upon the teachings of Islam and nothing else.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

^ It could be seen as 'independence' from monopoly/suppression, if a party wins majority they should've been given the right to government.

^^
but we still haven't learned it

Please stop being romantic and face the reality. Bangladesh is there for good!
Pakistanis need to develop their own people, instead of taking responsibility for other people.
Besides most Bangladeshis have absolutely no desire to have anything to do with Pakistan. They are doing good on their own. And Pakistanis wish them well.

Re: Bangladesh “Victory Day” 16th December

Salaams Brother, can i call u brother? I am a Muslim born in the UK, whose parents are from Bangladesh. I dont agree with Muslim countries being divided based on Nationalism, once upon a time they were united under the Khilafat.

You seem to have accepted the current reality of division which is a recent phenomenon. Muslims all over the world are working to establish the Islamic system of ruling in our lands and uniting with other Muslim countries. We see that the Europeans are united under the European union so why cant we as Muslims unite under one state, after all we all beleive in Islam and the Quran and Sunnah as sources for legislation.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

you may be celeberating if you knew the complete history behind the conflict.and knew what was done to your people. One of the biggest genocides against muslims took place at the hands of Pakistan army when more than half a million bengali civilians were murdered on the orders of Yahya Khan in this civil war.

Re: Bangladesh “Victory Day” 16th December

from 3m to .5m that is a big switch… Do you know that after the war the newly BD govt. ordered an investigation and the final commission report was never released, you can figure out why…

Either way I am glad BD got their own paradise and I hope they stay busy with India like they are now… When will these fundos learn there is no such thing as chalipate or islamic brotherhood, For us Pakistanis it is Pakistan that comes first,PEROID…

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

Honestly, I wouldnt want Bangladesh to be part of Pakistan. The country is really poor and in terrible econmic conditions, the country is plagued by frequent natural disasters and ALOT of inner-poltical turmoil. Banglasdesh becoming runited would be nothing more than a headache. Culture of Pakistan and bangladesh are very very different(heck, even east pakistan(punjab and sindh) culture is very different from bangladesh), both countries are not a compatible match.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

yeah those estimates were exaggerated by the bengali government to seek more sypmathy from the un and foreign govts.but according to indepedant surveys around 500k were killed by pakistan army.

Re: Bangladesh “Victory Day” 16th December

There has been no independent investigation in this issue BD govt. will not allow it.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

^thats not ture..some foreigners after the war conducted indepedent surveys there to find out how many people may have been killed.i have a web site on that.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

^ They don't mean anything, there are independent surveys and web sites that still claim 3M killed... Not worth the ink they are written with unless there is a complete independent investigation which of course will never happen. I have an article by BD journalist who claims that even 100K figure is suspect.. Again, without full investigation its just speculation...

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

Ikharoon! Bangladesh is fastly leaving Pakistan behind! They are now a better economy than Pakistan!

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

yeah bengladesh is doing better in textile than pakistan eventhough pakistan has more cotton available.the problem in pakistan is inefficient labor, high utility bills etc.the idiots here wont let musharraf build dams

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

A person can get sad after looking at these pic or any other genocide pic. cuz its human loss...
But nuthing more than tha......
If there is a movement going on in bangladesh....to get a seperate land ...do u honestly believe that bangladesh gov. would serve it in a plate.i guess not.
So i believe watever happened ,happened ...
doesnt matter it was for a good cause of bad.
Pakistan was just trying to stop its country getting divided........but thanks to india and politics.......we ended up losing it.....
but let me put it straight.... my comments doesnt reflect the whole country's view but i personally believe...we pakistani r not heart broken or sad with the loss of east pakistan. *
*bangladeshi might have animosity towards us but we dont .

Same goes with the partition of india n pak.
pakistanis got animosity towrds india but i believe india doesnt care tha much over partition

Re: Bangladesh “Victory Day” 16th December

yes i have read about how makti bahni used to kill Pakistanis and show the pictures of ‘bangalis’ killed by pak army to the whole world. i feel sorry for all those innocent people (bangali, bihari, punjabi etc) killed by pak army and makti bahni.

anyways, bangladesh needs to sort out its own mess now. my prayers are with bengalis. best of luck! :k:

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

I agree.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

I am sure you know why Bengalis asked for a "separate" land.
