Al-Jazeerah, December 4, 2006

On the 16th of December millions of people in Bangladesh and Bangladeshis around the world will celebrate Victory day. On this day in 1971, the Pakistani army surrendered to the Indo-Bangladeshi High Command in Dhaka, ending a 9 month war of independence. Pakistani General AAK Niazi surrendered officially to the Allied forces commander General Arora.

Bangladesh gained independence after 9 months of a long and bloody struggle. India also commemorates victory over Pakistan on the same day in 1971 on Vijay Diwas.

I as a Muslim, born in Britain whose parents are from Bangladesh do not celebrate this day nor regard it as a day of victory. How can their be victory and celebration when one Muslim country is divided and separated into 2 parts?

Nationalism divides Muslims and keeps us weak while unity and regulation of society based upon Islam unites and strengthens us.

InshAllah Pakistan will be re-unified again soon and millions of us East Pakistani Muslims make dua and work for unity again based upon the teachings of Islam and nothing else.

Below is a poem which I wrote to mark this sad anniversary which I hope will inshAllah be the last.

I am East Pakistan

Created in 1947

Torn from mother India

And divided from my brother

West Pakistan

By several thousand miles of hostile territory

Land which was once ours

Under the glorious Islamic rule

Taken away by western powers

Who looted and polluted

All of our resources and way of life and values

When we woke up and challenged their injustice

They responded with barbarism

But Allah was with us

And they fled and sailed away

With only a token force remaining

Leaving behind a trail of destruction

And religions at each others throats.

Divide and conquer

Their contribution to humanity

And greatest achievement

A great continent once ruled by Islam

Where it didn’t matter

What religion or no religion you followed

Coz u were a citizen of the Islamic state

An example of multiculturalism

Never witnessed since

They divided a great country into two but created three separate parts

Millions died

But to them it didn’t matter

They saw us as uncivilised animals

And no one sheds tears when dogs die.

East and West Pakistan was soon born

But only to be torn

In 1971

Based on regionalism, nationalism, discrimination and exploitation

They had planted the seeds of division as a solution in 47

Brother hated brother

One brother sought help from the Hindus

And they were happy to contribute to the bloodshed

The victors celebrated

But both sides lost the pleasure of Allah

Insulting a Muslim is a sin

And killing a Muslim is disbelief

Since 71

Bangladesh has achieved notoriety and fame

The worlds most corrupt country

Several years in a row

Politically subservient to USA and India

Instead of being looted by the elites in West Pakistan

Now being bankrupted by those in Dhaka

Same sad story in Pakistan

The faces may change

But the corruption remains

How the heart aches

And regrets the mistake of division

Brother divided from brother

Since 71

Yearning for unity

Not based on superiority of regionalism or caste

But one based on Islam and piety

Forget the slogans of Joi Bangla and Pakistan zindabad

And embrace the slogans of Allahu Akbar, Khilafat, Khilafat

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

My friend, ask the bangla deshis what happened there.Enquire abt the massacre of their intelligentia by paki military n total rape of that country by them.If u loo with ur open eyes,u will see numerous such examples in all the history. The same is true of any religious people. In India, hindus have done the same kind of atrocities in the name of castes. It is not a matter of religion but a matter of HAVE NOTs n those who have all. This is an eternal stuggle.Shrouding it in the cloth of religion is only not to look at it squarley in the eyes.
You seem to be quite young.I request you to first read the history, sociology n comparitive religious studies with honest mind n open eys of a seeker, then pronouce any judgement.
Donot waste your precious life in hatred but fill it with laughter n kindness.Do not help anyone just becuase he/she is a muslim but help because he/she is a human being..You will find a new n vibrant world opening up to you.

Mr. brijinder

App ny bachy ki baat per ghoor nahee kia.

Allied = indian (why???)
why india celebrated victory???

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

That is politics,my dear.It has nothing to do with religion despite what the leadwers want us to believe. The india includes muslims, sikhs n so many others.Do u honestly think that there can ne another country where the president is muslim, prime minister nthe general of army sikh n the country has a hindu majority?it is the strength of its democracy despite some very sick so-called saviours of indian culture-Hindu shiv sena etc.
Do not be mesmerised by the religious or political leaders's venom n dreams of heaven.Start thinking for yourself -with utmost honesty.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

I am not fan/follower of any leader.
Only person i like in politics is imran khan who is the greatest suppoter of india-pakistan relations.

I want india and pakistan to be friends too.
We need to cut down our defense budget.

But still we were back stabed in 1971.
We can't give up preparing to defend our selfves since people still think pakistan as their lost part.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

This is not you speaking once again,my friend. This is again what the leaders of the country wants u to believe.Read the histories by different authors, especially who are neither indian nor pakistani, then make ur opinion.
Do also think about what I said about the vibrancy of indian democracy.Do u sincerly think that any non-muslim can occupy the very inportant positions like president or P.M or general in ANY of the islamic countries?
India is not great because it is hindu dominated country but because it still has its democratic n secular values intact despite some self-serving leaders' repeated tries.
This is one country where freedm of speech is such that movies depicting the partisan n step motherly treatment given to minorities like muslim etc.can be made.Just see the movie,DEV.
Read as much as u can before forming any opinion.Half-baked truthes only lead to mistrust, hatred n what not n poison not only one mind but that poison also does harm to many manyothers.
My best wishes are with you.

Well you just claimed you know me better then iknow my self-- you left me speechless.

few facts you might not familiar with.

Our society is little different then what you see in India.
1-We don't rally follow our leader or mullahs.
2-we are programmed by PTV.

so the way Indian youth is polluted with hatred against muslim --we are not like that.
================================================== ==================
I know Bengal was very poor.
I know their were all Pakistani officers there.
I know all the education system was run by Hindus there.
They thought we were steeling their jute(after separation they didn't have buyer for that jute)
I know Pakistan neglected Bengal to last levels.

I know that if given an other chance Pakistan will do things differently.

but
but
We had enemy there too. India acted on pure hatred ageist us.

India gandhi said "we took revenge of our 1000 old history"

Does it tells you some thing??????
You smell out side hand in that situation???????????

If not --we need not to communicate. Since you are willing to over look very obvious things.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

My friend,I just told u not to read the yellow journalis but real history books n preferably by non-partisan authors.Abt indian youth being polluted against muslims,i tink u r still in some dream age ,man. The indian youth ,more or less,is quite aware of the machinations of their own leaders.By indan youth,do u include all those intelligent n sober muslims, sikhs, chritians, buddhist, jains n what as well?
I am writing again n agin just because i see in you an innocent youth going to waste in the slime of hatred n prejudice, and that is not what i like.I live in New zealand and we have so many muslim and also pakistani muslim freinds n we laugh at what we were programmed to think abt each other back home and what we found.Good luck,my friend.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

Salaams

This is a response i got to the poem

Oh my God

what a poem, what sentiments

Tears of joys fell from my eyes.

I couldnt believe that a former east Pakistani Muslim
brother would feel and express in such an emotional
and lovely way the loss of unity and breakage of an
islamic nation.

If more people like Mr Showkat Ali are still there,
who not only feel but convey the truth, then no power
on earth, leave alone Hindus, can harm the Muslim
Ummah.

I am deeply grateful to your sincere effort and a
beautiful poem, it brought tears into my eyes.

I had thought that we lost East Pakistan, but now I know
there will be new Pakistan, which will include BanglaDesh, Pakistan and Bharat.

And Khilafat with whole of Muslim Ummah united. Amien

wassalam

your brother in Islam

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

Hi Anwar,
I am sure that u can find not dozens but hundreds who will tell yoy that it is a great thought but only very few who will tell u otherwise. because all-hindus,sikhs,muslims etc,all are so full of the ideas of their own religions' superiority that they just forget the beauty of humanity.Had u been born in a hindu family or some fanatic hindu born in muslim family, you n he would have falsely n proudly beleived in the supermacy of that religion.
Try to be just human n try to feel the small joys n pains of all the ordainary people irrespective of caste, colour n religion.Try to explore n study other religions so that u could see that all are equally beautiful.First just start asking some intelligent questions to urslef n then try to find answers with utmost honesty.Example, what is a religion? Why is there a need of religion?Has religion given us real peace?I can give u numerous othe but disturbing questions that we should ask ourselves before giving out half baked advices with half truths n with the conviction of an ignorant. It is said that ignorance is bliss but beleive me,knowledge is a lonely but very rewarding path

Tell me that you were joking???????? who want to live with baharat(india)???
Some time good things happen in the bad way---formation of bangladesh is an example.

Good those morons went their own way.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

Friends, all i will say to u is GROW UP n dont be a tool of those cunning politicians n so-called religious leaders.Donot let hate n prejudices govern your mind n heart n ruin you n your coming generations.I have so many muslim-indian n pakistani frinds here in new zealand.Indian muslims are very proud of their country n so are pakistanis of pakistan but we all are very good frind n laugh at the tunnel visions of political leaders.
Also think honestly about the comments that u made regarding bangla desh. Are these the signs of a juvenile mentality or of a grown up,intelligent n well read person?

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

india back stabbed us in 1971 bangalis helped them.

You always tell me you intraction with muslms.

here is little thing
when i first came to west--- i knew a very little about pakistan history.
then I came across indian(mainly hindus) who would never let a chance go to swear at pakistan and mulims.
Then I started looking into history and found out so many lies which indian told me about the history.

Bangalis picked up india over pakistan so let it be.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

My friend,it is v v easy to hate someone but very diffucult to try to understand. This goes for hindus, muslim n others with their own sense of false superioirty.
I have previousely also written that instead of beleiving what others tell u,u should go into the histories by reputed historian who are preferably neither from india nor from pakisatn if u r serious about knowing the truths.
Hatred, greed, mistrust, political aspirations and prejudices of our leaders-both hindus n muslims-sowed the seeds in the hearts of common people.Ofcourse britishers helped in that as well. The love n trust of the generations was wiped out in that boody frenzy of 1947 when all-hindus,muslims n sikhs, became just vicious animals n did what even animals would not have done to each other.
So my friend, try to give yourself a mature n intelligent vision.Do u think it could have been possible in pakisatn or any other predominantly muslim country what has happened in india-that its president is muslim, its prime minister n chief of army is sikh??Answer it with honesty.Think if it would have been possible that in saudi arabia or any sunni dominated country, any bohra, shiya or any other muslim sect's man or woman become Prrime minister or any such prominent position?Answer with utmost honesty. It is not becuase of hindu tolerance but becuase india has emrged as a vibrant democracy n have very intelligent youth who now see above the narrowness of religion.
This is what should be in all other indian sub continent countries,if they want to become a vibrant democracy n not rules by army generals or self-serving royal families.
Plz my frind, dont waste ur life in ramining a shallow person.Life is too precious t waste it in hatred.

In 1984 they burned sikh alive. Leaders die in pakistan all the time no one go around kill (burn alive) any one.

Not too long ago hounders of muslim were slaughter in jugrat .....freakin un accounted.

If you read un bised non westren media they say openly-- no other country can do so many killing on this planet as india does in kashmir and other parts.

Re: Bangladesh "Victory Day" 16th December

U have not addressed what i hoped u would do.I wanted to convey that it is not that one or many muslim kings were bad to sikhs but what i meant was that KINGS per se are not good.Religion.for them, has always been a tool to consolidate their empires only.I can quote many hindu n sikh rulers who if they didnot kill their people but still very very cunning n mean.
I am sihk n I know what happened in delhi.I was the one who openly composed poems against govt. But India has been fortunate in that there were so many enlightned hindus who condcted their own investigations into sikh riots n brought out a book,"Who are guilty"n they openly names all the criminals in that. They all were very prominent hindus who openly said that they were ashamed.
There were many hindu organisations who openly spoke against the barbarities agaist muslims in gujrat.India's most prominent magazines,India Today and Outlook, openely criticised the action n sided with muslims.
It was becuase of the freedom of speech n the vibrant democratic n secular values in people that movies like DEV,BOMBAY n ROJA n many other could be made.Do see those n make up your mind about what I said.
u gave so many replies with my quotes but had no reply to my:
So my friend, try to give yourself a mature n intelligent vision.Do u think it could have been possible in pakisatn or any other predominantly muslim country what has happened in india-that its president is muslim, its prime minister n chief of army is sikh??Answer it with honesty.Think if it would have been possible that in saudi arabia or any sunni dominated country, any bohra, shiya or any other muslim sect's man or woman become Prrime minister or any such prominent position? And i am yet not talking about any hindu or christian.Answer with utmost honesty. It is not becuase of hindu tolerance but becuase india has emrged as a vibrant democracy n have very intelligent youth who now see above the narrowness of religion.

About shallowness,do I have to say anything more?It was not meant to mock you but ofcourse,it was a satire towards all those all-knowing n living on hatred n half truths-hindus,sikhs n muslims-that it was aimed.
