DHAKA: Bangladesh on Wednesday urged Pakistan to apologise formally for alleged atrocities committed by its army during Bangladesh’s bloody liberation struggle in 1971.
Bangladeshi officials have said three million people were killed during the fight for independence for what was then East Pakistan, and the new government in Dhaka has vowed to try suspected war criminals.
In a meeting with Pakistan’s High Commissioner on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni raised the issue of ‘seeking formal apologies by Pakistan for the genocide in 1971,’ a written statement said.
A Pakistani envoy told Bangladesh in February to let ‘bygones be bygones’ and rejected plans to try those accused of murder, rape and arson.
A private Dhaka-based group that has investigated the conflict has named 1,775 people, including Pakistani generals and local militants allied with Pakistan, as war crime suspects.

i dont know whats the process in pakistan, do we ever set up a tribunal to look at army actions? if allegations are true( and i think they are from what i have read on the matter) then apology is the least that we could do.

Yes there was a commission called "Hamoodur Rahman" Commission. HR was the big name judge back then. Do google and you can find all the gory details.
The bottom line is that total deaths were around 26,000 (both Bengalis and non-Bengalis) and not 3 million.
The commission also faulted some generals for their mishandling of the law and order.
However it was all after the fact. And Bangalis had just killed their founder the Bangla Bandhu. So there was little to offer as apology etc.
If Bagnalis are serious, they should climb down their high-holiness and accept that they killed 1000s of non-Begnalis on simple suspicion.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has urged Bangladesh to let bygones be bygones with regard to alleged atrocities committed by the Pakistani security forces in 1971.
Foreign Office spokesman, Abdul Basit in his weekly briefing said that the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Dipu Moni had asked Pakistan to apologise for the alleged war crimes.
The spokesman said Pakistan believes the matter as settled under the April 1974 tripartite agreement between Pakistan, India and Bangladesh in which Pakistan condemned and regretted any atrocities committed.

In 2002 the then President of Pakistan had also regretted any wrongs done in 1971, the spokesman added.**
He said Pakistan gives great importance to good relations with Bangladesh, and it is better for both countries to move forward instead of being frozen in the past.

Pakistan loses nothing by tendering an apology. This is not a good time to justify killings or argue about on the #s. Bangladesh is a brother Muslim country keeping cordial relation is the interest of Pakistan.
The commision just accepted the figures provided by the GHQ .... it never did any investigation on the actual numbers .....
