**Bangladesh has been ranked as the most corrupt country on earth in the latest list of corrupt nations published by Transparency International.
The Berlin-based anti-corruption watchdog said Bangladesh shares the top spot with the central African country of Chad. **
This is the fifth year in a row that Bangladesh has topped the corruption perception index.
Last year, the Caribbean country, Haiti, ranked top with Bangladesh.
The survey relates to perceptions of the degree of corruption in different countries, as seen by business people, academics and risk analysts.
Officials at the Bangladesh chapter of Transparency International say they have seen no real effort over the years to root out corruption.

Oh well its that time again the yearly corruption league, and bangledesh on top of the league, corruption is always painted as being asscoiated with poor countries which is true lot of the time they are corrupt, but the western countries also have billion dollar corruption scandals and this is not highligted nearly enough.
ak47, I believe the corruption scale/measurements represent the level... yes billions of dollars are man-handled in well-off countries but is normally done at higher level .... on grass roots level the country may not be as corrupt as for example BD is reported.
that is correct in pakistan or banglegesh you will see corruption on the street level from police to local government, somehting you may not find very common in more well off societies. But for sure the level of corruption in the west is massive and done at the corporate level and we talking billions here not a few hundred rupees which is done on the streets of BD, India or pakistan!
Corruption exists in western countries too but they just gave it different names and made it legal. If campaign Financing, special interest groups and corporate lobbies in Washington DC were considered as corruption then USA would be the most corrupted country.
The corruption in the West does not compare to that in Pakistan and other 3rd world countries. In Pakistan it pervades every strand and level of society form the lowest to the highest.
In the West, the countries still function while in Pak, it is a tale of broken/non-existent roads, horrible 'hospitals', lack of criminal justice....i could go on and on
Pretending there is a comparison may make people feel better, but ignores the reality of the state of the countries.
yup, corruption has always been a problem for third world countries. i always wonder not long ago pakistan was in the top 3 corrupt countries and benazir was in power back then. despite all that, WB and other countries continue to lend money that corrupt government. and then at the same time they call them corrupt. its simply bcos they will get their money back with all the interest so who cares where money is being spent, either for better living standards or for buying apples and sweets for zardari's horses in isb. they don't care. poor will remain poor and rich will become more and more richer and WB and other institutes will get their money and interest and in the end its a satisfying end to the story.
USA is the most corrupt govt and is the worst govt in the world which does not give a damn about its citizens. If the above statement was true, why do we still find massive queues outside the embassies of USA requesting for a visa...

People won’t stop coming to America just because campaign financing and special interest groups are a legal from of corruption. They don’t think that such issues affects their lives in America but the fact is that it does. Higher cost of energy, drugs and healthcare are all as a result of such legal corruption which affects every American.
Agreed and I’ll add a few more things to that. These are things I know in the US, first hand.
Nepotism - most senators and highly placed officials have easy means of getting positions for their friends and relatives in govt, public and private orgs
Quotas - eg: Minority & Women Owned Business - this is a huge quota rip off. And I am not referring to the obvious ‘reverse discrimination’ issues
