Bane of turning troops into schools administrators and 'teachers'

oh well, military is everywhere back home and here in the country that we so marvel as the land of opportunity.

tomorrow, children will schools run by fresh killers back from over seas, and be taught by them.

how does military training equates to building consciencious young learners and future back bone of the nation and the country’s work force, God knows…

do the american people really think that their kids will learn worl history, geography and international relations, as an unbiased domain of knowledge ?

one thing is for sure - might through amassed ppower, can get you any where, eveninto the school doors - which ideally should have been off limits from military personnel, current or -X.

any thoughts on this?

Broad Center Announces 2007 Superintendents Academy Class

The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems has announced that fifteen high-ranking military officials, prominent education leaders, and business executives have been selected to participate in the 2007 Broad Superintendents Academy.

For the first time in the program’s five-year history, nearly half the incoming class is comprised of high-ranking, senior military leaders, two of whom are already working as school district executives. Other participants include the president and CEO of Edison Schools Inc., the superintendent of the Topeka Public Schools, and high-level education executives from urban districts in Atlanta, Boston, Memphis, New York City, Philadelphia, and Cobb County, Georgia.

The academy, a ten-month executive management program, is the only such program in the country that recruits and trains non-traditional candidates to become school superintendents. To date, thirty-three of the program’s graduates have served as superintendents, while another twenty-six have gone on to hold senior executive district positions.

“These impressive leaders already have successfully managed million-, even billion-dollar budgets and overseen hundreds to thousands of personnel,” said Broad Foundation founder Eli Broad. “With intensive, deep exposure to the best of what’s working in school reform, they can apply their proven leadership abilities to dramatically improve opportunities for students in our schools.”

Re: Bane of turning troops into schools administrators and 'teachers'

the people chosen to get in these roles are not some college dropout sourthern reservist, but educated officers, many from the fine military acaemies, and others who had education from good universities and decided to join the military..for others they became reserves and thus got funds to pay for their education and at a time of war, had to go and fight.

referring to all military personnel as 'killers' is an extremely offensive term. I have friends in the military who are serving in different capacities, and those who are in the front lines would rather not go around killing people.

why should schools management be off limit for current or former military people.

as far as learning "world history, geography and international relations, as an unbiased domain of knowledge " do you really think that civilian teachers are knowledgeable and unbiased? look at our urban schools here see what students know, and what teachers teach.

Re: Bane of turning troops into schools administrators and 'teachers'

Military training entails disciplined and advanced education in technical skills, physical fitness, a broad array of academic subjects and leadership development. They are no more biased in their teachings than the more liberal or urban schools as Fraudz stated above.

Just as you don't seem to have a clue as to the advanced education of military officers, you evidently don't know too many of them either since you refer to them all as "killers".

Re: Bane of turning troops into schools administrators and 'teachers'

Military officers, having gone through some of the best leadership training available intheir countries, have excellent management skills that are critical to successfully running complex organisations such as companies and schools.

The worlds' leading corporations love to hire former officers for this very reason and the school system would be fortunate to benefit from this as well.

Secondly, just beause the head of a school is a war veteran does not make them a bad teacher. My father went to school in pakistan at a military cadet college in Pakistan headed by an army officer who had fought against the Japanese and the Indians. It didn't seem to hurt my dad in any way shape or form, so would American kids be hurt by being taught by officers who had served in Iraq?

If i was running a school, particularly an inner city school, i would definitely recruit some military mite. would do wonders for discipline
