Okay, this might be a tad bit late for posting the review. But I watched Bandit Queen for the first time. And I have to say I was moved by this movie. I am not a great Shekar Kapoor fan especailly when I saw hi mact in his wife’s Music videos. But this film is a great work of art, especailly coming out India. Many Bollywood careers were started from this movie. It includes Nirmal Panday and many dont know that Manoj Bajpayee for the first time appeared in the movie as Man Singh.
Great movie, showing the curse of the Caste system in India. And how the untouchables are treated there. The best scene of the movie which I like is that when Phoolan goes to the Muslim Dacoit King and says that since most of his members are Muslims and they dont have castes. She wants to join them. For the first time in my life, I have seen an Indian movie not ridiculing Islam and showing Muslims as good people. Decoits but good people. Its alot better than those Rubbish art movies like 1947 Earth and Kama Sutra.
If you guys havent checked it out. It sure is a must watch. And last but not least Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s music is spectacular.
They were screening it here on m-net a few years ago. Maybe it was just my luck but I switched the tv on to find a horrific rape scene. I was so mortified I didn't bother watching the movie. But I'm sure it was really good otherwise.
The real Bandit Queen is alive & kicking in Politics. She has been elected after she was pardoned for her crimes of murder & dacoity as shown in the end of the movie too .
Yes,she was an exceptional SURVIVOR,otherwise average indianwoman succum to such atroceties much sooner .She is an exceptional woman of strenth & intellect & intelligence

I am not a great Hindi movie fan so I may not have seen many movies. But which Hindi movies showed Muslims or Islam in a bad light ?
sanam,
She lost her seat in Parliament. Its ok to sympathise with what she had to endure but to actually approve her as a lawmaker is ridiculous. There's no need to glorify a bandit.
This is hard to explain BK. I mean you have to see the movies in Muslim point of view to see how the Bombay film industry stupidifies Islam. Usually there are scenes where these guys smking Ganja with long long hair and dirty clothes are at a darbaar sining Allah hoo. Examples of such movie are Kache Dhaage, refugee, fiza etc...
And then when making fun of muslims is involved watch any JP Dutta movie. You will understand my point of view....

in fact, i find it other way round. villain is often shown chanting 'ram ram' or something like. in fact, i do not remember movie in which a pandit is shown in positive light. on the other hand, muslim is always shown as trustworthy and good friend and blah blah.. while u will see stuff on caste system and things like here and there u will never see polygamy in muslims or verbal talaq in hindi movies. hindi movie muslim is a goody-goody guy. this may partly be cuz hiondi movies employ huge number of muslims from writers to photographers to actors and actresses.
Which I may add is questioned by Bal Thackerey and he is promoting Hritik Roshan again and again so the Monoply of Muslim heros in the film industry could be finished.
As for movies ZZ, name one movie in the recent past with Muslims being the good guys. Yet another example of where Muslims were ridiculed was Pukar? ab baat karro!

Bal Thackrey is not promoting Hrithik. Hrithik is there because people want to see him. Similarly the three khans (out of which aamir is my personal favourite) will be there till they perform. People do not see movies on Bal Thackrey's recommendation. They do not seem to even vote on his recommendation.

'Satya' would be an example. In 'Pukar' Pak was ridiculed, not muslims. Ridiculing Pak is understandable. We fought three wars.
Years ago when it had just come out, my mom rented it right away–for us to learn about this legendary female.
The first few scenes start out by the familiar cursing and thats when me and my bro were given a choice–either to sit there and become acquainted with the lingo (
I think Ali Beta has nothing to do with this movie but he wants to explore the sufferings given to Indian muslims by bollywood and BAL TACKARAY .... he also wants to tell us the rediculous cast system in INDIA .....
He has nothing to do with movie
I agree with ZZ, muslims are always shown goody goody, watch "Mirch Masaala" the Hindu landlord is a horrible person (i am sure it is historically true, landlords have been known to be very cruel) but out of all men a lone muslim (caretaker of the factory) saves Samita Patel.
I sure the story writer or producer of that movie is muslim.
