Ban on Islamic veils in public...

In China’s xinjiang.

What is your take on this?

China’s Urumqi bans Islamic veil, sparking rights concerns - World - DAWN.COM

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

The article says they even banned people with headscarves, veils and long beards from boarding buses. China’s Urumqi bans Islamic veil, sparking rights concerns - World - DAWN.COM I hope this gets as equally condemned as France’s ban on headscarves and veils.

My take is they should watch hum tv’s shanakht. Even they will be impressed by Qurat-ul Ain.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Is there a Chinese version?

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

No there isn’t unfortunately. And hum tv doesn’t do subtitles :frowning: Have you seen it? If not i recommend it.

One day they will also feature a Zee Zindagi channel just for Pakistani dramas like we do in India. Maybe even feature some characters in hijab.

Like Indian and Pakistani parents have fallen in love with the personality and character of Qurat-ul-Ain the same will happen with Chinese parents. They will also tell their children to act like Qurat-ul-Ain and be patient like her. She is the ideal daughter in law. My dad was about to recommend a middle eastern colleague who wears hijab to watch Pakistani drama Shanakht. But i told him they are middle eastern and of arabic background unko Urdu nahi aati kaise samjhenge. Not everyone is blessed enough to know urdu and to understand/watch Pakistani dramas. So unfortunately Chinese people will miss out on the excellence that is Shanakht.:frowning:

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Do not worry. They will copy-cat and produce their own serial.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Chinese people copy serials? But really recommend Shanakht. You will fall in love with the character of Qurat-ul-Ain. This happened in my family. Now whenever i watch Shanakht with my family they point out all her great characteristics in different situations.

Seriously humtv should do subtitles so they can export their 3 D Pakistani characters to other countries worldwide.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

I do not have that much patience to watch a serial but I will definitely look in to it later.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Thanks. I am sure you will not regret it. Good thing about Pakistani serials is that they are short and sweet. 20 episodes 20 min each. This serial comes only once a week so it’s even less than that. My parents are hooked onto Pakistani dramas on humtv. They have introduced these serials to many Indian families who visit us. I feel good things should be appreciated regardless of boundaries and if i can learn something positive from characters in a drama and become a better person then why not.

People think soaps are just about stories but not really. It’s about characters and how different personalities react differently to same situation. In a serial you can discuss hundreds of story lines and how to respond without personally experiencing any of it.

sorry for going off topic. I think stereotypes against people who wear beards and hijabs is what makes some countries take these extreme steps. People need to see more positive representations and see that someone with a beard and hijab is no different to us. They also have feelings and emotions. They also get hurt when they face stereotypes. Shanakht successfully does that.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Here is glimpse of Shanakht. Maybe we should send a translated trailer to the Chinese government? Maybe they will reconsider. You can literally feel the emotions and the pain etched across her face. Her dreams shattered. Why? Imagine having the closest to perfection personality, a flawless character, endless patience and boundless compassion and understanding. Then being rejected for wearing a hijab and having to change your external appearance just to feel accepted. This is what happened to Qurat-ul-Ain. I am sure Chinese citizens who wear hijab would be experiencing the same emotions. I can see a lot of parallels between these 2 situations. The Hum tv writers are geniuses. Even with a simple story they are subconsciously making a political impact which will echo around the world and change stereotypes about those who wear hijab among those less aware.

Hum tv is the best tv channel of Pakistan  according to me.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

^Cool.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Look forward to you watching the serial. I still have few more episodes to watch. Then to discuss in showbiz Pakistan.

What needs to happen is mass flooding of the Chinese government’s email with emails consisting of this Shanakht trailer. The power of Qurat-ul-Ain will change mindsets.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Pakistan should ban veils too

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Can you provide a summary of the show - not to exceed 10 pages single spaced?

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

really? are you serious? what if Qurat-ul-Ain wore a niqab instead of a hijab? would that change her personality

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Girl and boy like each other since childhood.
Girl is perfect but wears hijab and boy cannot accept it. He rejects her and marries another
He works with her in a project and realises he was shallow to reject her on that alone . She is in all ways amazing.

there you go^ now i can’t reveal more. you must instead watch show.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

I thought this was just a Short abstract.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

Idk who she is, but I don’t think the burka or niqab has anything to do with Islam and especially not Pakistani culture, it’s important to see people’s face, otherwise you can’t trust them and it’s also a security risk, a lot of terrorists disguise themselves in burkas.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

even batman does burqah, but bruce wayne hates it. :naraz:

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

ok that is understandable i guess. She is a character who wears hijab on Pakistani drama Shanakht. It shows good portrayal of Muslims who wear hijab and beards. More people outside of Pakistan should also see it.

Re: Ban on Islamic veils in public…

who is Qurat-ul-Ain?
