gum tragacanth…you wouldn’t find it in normal grocery stores. You can try Tylose powder its cheaper alternative maybe in Micheal’s?(US) but even that may be hard to come by. Unless of course you buy the ingredients online
Also to answer your other question those flowers are made out of gum paste or fondant
I haven’t tried fondant but many ladies here have, so you should wait for their expert opinion

I made simple cake but this is my first try to decorate the cake with icing, my daughter love the cake, the swiss butter cream icing is yummy, thanks Ira.

hi everyone! so i managed to do a trial run on my son’s first birthday cake ( which is less than two weeks away!)
two days ago, here are the pics! my butter cream icing didnt go to plan as it went too runny so only put it on the top
and only had the vanilla flavouring in the original brown colour will correct it next time

I have two questions:
- What can I substitute for egg whites in a cake recipe? I’m not to keen on throwing the yolks away.
- When testing the oven temperature with a cooking thermometer, can I just leave the thermometer in the oven while it is on?
I also found this site for great layered cake recipes. I’m planning on making the strawberry one soon!
