Re: Baking - The Beginners Guide
I have a couple of questions about the types of cakes that are covered in what I think is cream, and decorated with fruit.
Firstly, IS is whipped cream? If so, what kind of cream - do you add any sugar etc?
Secondly, what do you do to stop the fruit from going brown? Apart from eating it straight away of course :D

Re: Baking - The Beginners Guide
yup, thats the same marshmallow fondant recipe i use. if your fondant is becoming too sticky, add some more powdered sugar to it. it should be like aata or pie dough, not too sticky, so it rolls out well. also you should make sure to generously grease your work surface, your hands, and your rolling pin with shortening to prevent the stickiness- that will lend to the shine. and when i mean generously, i mean, be generous truly! i usually take a big pat of shortening and rub it all over my hands like lotion, and then thoroughly rub down my rolling pin and surface too.
shortening and crisco are the same thing- crisco is just a brand of shortening.
**The word “shortening” always confuses me. Is it “butter,” “margarine,” “lard” or something like “Crisco”? **
All of the above — technically. Shortening, in its most generic meaning, is any fat or oil that is used to make a short crust or dough (one that has a high ratio of fat to flour, and turns out tender, crumbly, and rich).
In general usage, when you see the word shortening as an ingredient in a recipe in this country, the author is referring to solid vegetable shortening, of which Crisco is the leading brand.
