Hearing about this pending movie of Sanjay Leela Bhansali for many years.
Whats the historical perspective of the story? All I know that Baji Rao was a Maratha ruler, who fought successful wars against Mughals in 18th Century.
Why the man is called Peshwa? As normally, Peshwa is a religious leader.

In marathi you can see lot of farsi and arabic words......
he was like prime minister of state...but these smart peshwas took contro lof nation in same manner as ranas had taken control of nepal

Peshwas were mostly brahmin ministers in the maratha royal court, later they took command of the maratha confederacy:) All important peshwas till their defeat in third battle of Panipat used to get crowned at the age of 20 and died by at the time of 40, this natural succession continued for the long time, this is one of the few groups where pundas were leader of the kingdom, they overran entire mughal suzerainty and their highest power they reached till Attock in pakistan:)

Yes she was wife of Peshwa BajiRao:k: She was daughter of Maharaja Chattrasal of Rewa and his persian muslim wife:) Muhhamad khan bangash, mughal governor of allahbad defeated him and captured him, he sent for help of BajiRao, BajiRao defeated Bangash and Maharaja Chattrasal gave her daughter to him:)

There are various theories about her but most accepted is that she was daughter of Hindu Raja Chattrasal of Rewa. other theory is she was dancer, some say that she was daughter of Nizam of Hyderabad and BajiRao married her after defeating Nizam:)

Their marriage brought dispute in Royal family. The family never accepted her as member:), The son she beget wasn't accepted as Brahmin, the head priest never did his "Janeo". Janeo is sacred thread without which no brahmin can marry:), Her son was raised as muslim and he died at the age of 27 in third battle of panipat:)
BajiRao died due to heart attack or heat stroke while he was traveling to Delhi. Hearing this mastani got heart attack and she died, others say that she consumed poison:(

He died in third battle of Panipat, he was raised as muslim, Marathas controlled entire India even after panipat, Nagpur by Bhosle, Gwalior by Scindias, Jhansi by LaxmiBai, Kanpur by NanaSaheb, I don't remember exact location but his muslim descendents controlled some region in UP:)
