Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

We had a classmate whose “future” brother in law used to come live with him for few days every month or so. He became our friend too and we used to tease him by saying, “dhee dey gharooN tey paani vi naiN peena chahi da” and you stay with your future behnooi.

So is it just a Punajbi thing or other cultures have it too.

Re: Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

dhee dey gharooN

was he from Multan/Saraiki side :konfused:

Re: Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

No but as i thought tee might confuse people i chose "dhee"

Re: Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

Its kind a cultural thing from villages or other backward areas of Pakistan/India.

Re: Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

NO! it's not a punjabi thing. I thought this was only in India

Re: Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

No man.. it’s not punjabi wunjabi thing… it’s a desi thing…

I saw one of my uncles used to do that when he used to come at our home (behn kay ghar maiN paani bhee naa peenaa) … he was the only one though… we knocked some senses in him over the years and he is almost ok although tries to practice this thing whenever possible :hehe:

PS: the tradition comes from hinduism, just FYI

Re: Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

Aik lateefa yad a giya koi zameendar apni baiti ky ghar giya. Jab baiti ny khany ka pocha tu kehny laga nahi, “Byti ky ghar ki roti haram hai.” Byti ny kaha “Baba ini door sy aiya hy kuj ty kha ghin chal aik roti nah sahih aik chappa khal.” Baba ny kaha chappa:aq::hmmm:that sholud be fine."
Baiti khana lai tu aik chappy ky baad baba ny aik or phir aik or phir aik or ki frmaish ki. teen char chapon ky baad bap ny kaha “Dhi Rani chappy tery dhady swadi hyn, Aynj ker pandra vih rotian dy chapy bana k kidhi a,”

Re: Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

and if parents only have daughters then still are they gonna adopt the same practice.
i really find it a stupid practice cuz son and daughter both have the equal responsibilities and rights to take care of their parents.

another thing which i hate about desi culture (well its a separate topic) so lemme start that topic.

what kind of punjabi is this?

Re: Baiti key Ghar sey Paani Bhi NahiN Peena

its a messed up cultural thing. And beside.. its the guy living with his future behnoi.. so thats his behnoi, not damaad. Shes his sister, not 'dhee'.

hahaha lol is ko main hi samhg sagi haan sirf:p
