We had a classmate whose “future” brother in law used to come live with him for few days every month or so. He became our friend too and we used to tease him by saying, “dhee dey gharooN tey paani vi naiN peena chahi da” and you stay with your future behnooi.
So is it just a Punajbi thing or other cultures have it too.

Its kind a cultural thing from villages or other backward areas of Pakistan/India.

No man.. it’s not punjabi wunjabi thing… it’s a desi thing…
I saw one of my uncles used to do that when he used to come at our home (behn kay ghar maiN paani bhee naa peenaa) … he was the only one though… we knocked some senses in him over the years and he is almost ok although tries to practice this thing whenever possible 
PS: the tradition comes from hinduism, just FYI

and if parents only have daughters then still are they gonna adopt the same practice.
i really find it a stupid practice cuz son and daughter both have the equal responsibilities and rights to take care of their parents.

its a messed up cultural thing. And beside.. its the guy living with his future behnoi.. so thats his behnoi, not damaad. Shes his sister, not 'dhee'.
