Re: Bahria town
Mostly Military Retirees who received options during their careers for plots and used their options and you do find some super rich people too who have mega Bungalows built like a fort all covered with barbed wire rolls on top of cement walls around 2 canals of land.
Yes anywhere from middle class on 10 Marla plots to 2 canal plots available, now most have homes already built!
The advantage you have is well planned streets and side lanes plus regular Garbage pick up, and no load shedding the town has it’s own generating plant!
Re: Bahria town
The rich people in Islamabad you will find in F sector. Bahria is mainly aimed at middle class professional people although you may find some rich people also there.
Re: Bahria town
Rich or not but the F sector is nothing but a red light / prostitution area as I was told by the locals during my 2-3 trips some time ago. Shattered my dreams of living in ISB. Never visited again and I call it the F*** sector now.
Re: Bahria town
Iam vary of Bahria Town, recently ISB High Court gave verdict against then as they were captured Govt Property and converted it into Bahria Project during Mushy and Zardari tenure…now people are askinh for their money…
Same in Lahore where LDA have already asked Bahria to vacate certain areaa uder their possesion…
i think majority top level management is retired army generals and most of mid level are kins or kids of existing service officers…
for some reason media does not give any report regarding Bahria…i dont know about Karachi
Re: Bahria town
so you dont have to be lie a business man or filthy rich?
Re: Bahria town
It’s about timing. My parents are definitely not rich, but they purchased a plot in a new phase of Bahria Town ISB, when they had just started developing it. It has more than doubled in value in the meantime, so they could not have afforded it at current rates. But if you look at it, as a long-term investment, it is affordable for Middle class as well.
Re: Bahria town
Almost every country\city has some form of prostitution. You should not let that dissuade you from living in a place.
Re: Bahria town
It is not just about prostitution areas of Pakistan but the unfortunate mentality that any female walking alone on street is a prostitute. My parents have a house in another city and have no interest in moving to a different city or even a different house within the same city. If I decide to move, I will have to live on my own and during my 2-3 trips, I learned the local mentality well. It scared me. My mom used to read news out loud to make me listen… News about how females living on their own away from their families were abducted/raped/killed. I used to close my ears to those news until I came to know about the similar cases happening with girls from my own contacts. Then how the secret police start stalking you assuming that you are either a prostitute or a foreign agent maybe because there is no concept of a female working/living alone in Pakistan? Before I moved, I had completely different views about the country. I used to consider ISB the most cosmopolitan & clean city. But growing prostitution should not be confused with modernism. And then due to probably unstable politics and the whole islamic freedom fighters thing, a female walking alone on the street is looked upon quite suspiciously too.
So I decided to return to my nest and not expose myself to assumptions, judgements of local holy people, dirty ogles, filthy men and all those things I got to see in the most cultured city of Pakistan.
Then I decided to explore another city (without naming the names for privacy). A mid aged woman on the flight told me a few incidents that happened with females in that city. Scared me again. She asked me, “Akhbar nahi parhti? News nahi sunti”? These things are quite common in Pakistan. You will be better off living at your parents’. This is Pakistan, girl. Your mother is correct. Go back.
Since then I did not dare explore more cities of the great muslim culture. Made me understand why people opt to move to live in cultures they consider to be morally corrupt. But they take their hypocrisy with them too. Unable to admit the cultures they left behind have nothing islamic about them.
Re: Bahria town
The situation in Pakistan is truly distressing. I’m not saying that street harassment is a complete non-issue in the West. However, it is nothing compared to what happens back home. Women’s access to public space is severely limited.
That said, I think it’s unfair to prostitution for all this. The profession is like any other. A service is provided and money is charged. People mistaking random women for hookers would not happen (that much) if sexual service providers were allowed to advertise there services openly. This wouldn’t eliminate street harassment though. That has more to do with our culture in Pakistan and our collective attitude towards women in the society.
Women are thought of as property. A women who is out and about without a man is seen as fair game.
Re: Bahria town
You mean with nonexistant morality and rampant prostitution growing at an unbelievably fast rate, legalizing something as disgusting as prostitution is the only solution to all these women-related issues? Not surprised to read that solution coming drom some guy in pakistan. No other solution your mind could think of???
As per you, legalizing prostitution will allow pthe prostitutes to walk around o streets with a bill board in their hands which will restrict the bayghairat bayhaya paki male population to look at other women the way they do now? Why not teach some ‘haya’ to frustrated paki youth and other male population that they would learn to respect women & stop looking at all the women as if they’re out for only one purpose??? Why can a female not be out alone if she is not offerring sex services? Yes I know any such woman is seen as public property and that is the mind set that needs to be changed. Legalizing prostituion will only decay any little hope left (if there is any) to cleanse this great islamic society already damaged beyond repair.
Re: Bahria town
I never said that’s the solution to all women-related issues. This is what I said
My assumption being that street hookers have some special signals they use to advertise (color of clothes, type of shoes, random stuff). Sometimes, regular women end up wearing stuff that might be mistaken for that sign. And this is not me trying to criticize the way women dress. The signal could be something as harmless as a certain color Hijab. Why does happen? Because the hookers can’t advertise openly. And it doesn’t have to be them holding billboards. They could use other avenues. There is internet, phone books, etc. Of course my assumption could be wrong and legalizing prostitution wouldn’t help with this issue at all.
Re: Bahria town
You seem to be an expert in recognizing hookers. So tell me what is so hookerish in a make up less girl with simple hair tied up in a ponytail wearing khakis with a long black winter coat? Im still getting to know the culture so dont know what kind of wrong signal I sent with my appearance. (F*** sector ISB). Im guessing it was the wrong location at the wrong time.
On another occasion, a long, ankle-length off white/brown dress. Again make up less but a brownish/beige pearl chain in the neck. (A coffee shop). Im tired of guessing but I cant guess.
There are many other occasions but those were not so posh areas & I understand that people in those location will look at any female with suspicion.
Re: Bahria town
How am I supposed to know? I was assuming those might be the reasons Johns confuse regular women for hookers.
Re: Bahria town
Okay… I really thought you knew why johns attack unsuspecting females with offensive dirty ogles. I really dont know why I thought so :o
Re: Bahria town
I think I misread your post where you said “that any female walking alone on street is a prostitute”. I misread the any for “a” hence the tirade about prostitution.
As for the ogles. It’s not because people think you’re a prostitute. People just ogle over here. Men and women everywhere check out people they find attractive. However, most Pakistani men have no tact and are very overt about checking out girls\women. That’s just how things are back home.
