Re: Bahria Town: Pakistan gated community sparks controversy
The government should investigate on lower levels of corruption? lol that just made me laugh.
You just come off as very aggressive about some of the things you say. This is why I was curious about the percentage of houses belonging to the military people, I somehow think it's a far smaller ratio than it's made out to be. It's kind of harsh to call all of them immoral if they have nicer or more protected homes than the average Pakistani. How can you tell that they're not already playing their part, giving charity etc while maintaining a lifestyle that they might have really worked hard for. The corrupt people I get though. You're sort of just hating on all rich people in general.
Everything makes you laugh...
Im not talking about you slipping a few notes to get out of a parking ticket. This is about land being given away at throw away prices for kickback... Not exactly low level corruption, does involve some high level military people. In any other country, this would be a pretty big deal.
I come of as aggresive? Hows that. Perhaps you assume to much considering this is online, and you have no idea who I am or what the tone is.
That its immoral is a personal opinion. You dont have to agree. And I dont hate on anyone, I have just always had a difficult time becoming accustomed to the income disparity in Pak. I have family that is relatively rich, and relatively poor. To see the contrast is really depressing. What makes it so difficult is not just seeing the contrast, but seeing how little the govt cares about these people. Nothing is done for the poor, beyond lip service. And then you read such articles on how Bahria town, through underhanded dealing with Military men, are able to procure so much land, while there are so many landless and poor people who could benefit not only themselves but their future generations, thats pretty F--d up if you ask me.
My complaint isnt with the residents however, the company and the crocked politicians/generals they deal with is.
Re: Bahria Town: Pakistan gated community sparks controversy
No reason to be rude.
I don't think u know what capitalism is. Tell me, why is insider trading illegal in the US? I will tell u, because its people with an unfair advantage, using insider information to make money at the expense of those who don't. That's where the level playing field comes in. In communism there is no playing field at all, and there are no players. This is simple stuff my friend.
Considering you are confusing government regulation with capitalism I highly doubt you understand anything related to the matter. You just make stuff up on a regular basis and I call you on it.
[/QUOTE]
LOL... Your to funny.
Come on man.. Who regulates the economy if not the govt? The reason the global economy collapsed was because of lack of regulation. Companies dont regulate themselves.
Capitalism is a system based on free markets. But the free market is regulated by the govt. Hence, regulated capitalism.
Re: Bahria Town: Pakistan gated community sparks controversy
Med911, props for some bang on responses. Thank you for touching upon the annexation of agricultural land and the plight of farmers. I understand why your POV may receive resistance on this thread or elsewhere. There's a desperate climate in Pakistan - interpersonal trust is nonexistent, everyone's on the defensive and we're generally not accustomed to critical introspection. Everything's a conspiracy theory, everyone's apparently got an agenda for saying something, and things gone wrong are always someone else's fault. The blanket distrust of 'goras' is understandable to an extent, but ultimately we suffer because others have to point out our shortcomings for us. We'll admit we're corrupt, but if an 'outsider' says the same we're up in arms.
The questions of funding + whether military personnel have stakes in BT aside, there's a larger issue of the proliferation of fortified enclaves in our societies - indeed not just in PK but globally. It's created a new model of segregation, fragmenting cities and transforming the quality and dynamics of public life. If this article won't even inspire reflection about contrasts of ostentatious wealth and abject poverty, the ever increasing income gap in a country where a quarter of the population lives under $2/day, what does that say about us.
